In this second book of the trilogy, Tom must continue aiding Harlan Ames and the former slaves-now free citizens-of the Lunar Colony. As Harlan seeks answers to the disappearance and origin of the Empress in Tibet, Tom is working on a project to help both the colony and the entire state of California, both going through severe water shortages and both needing almost immediate relief His plan is to capture a water-laden comet from outside the orbit of Jupiter, bring it into orbit high over the Moon, mine the ice and then let the water processing facilities of the colony purify it. Then, all he needs to come up with is a way to get the clean water down to Earth. Harlan finds more than he bargains for when he comes upon a woman with the personality of a young girl who has been severely injured. He nurses her back to health, eventually taking her back with him to the Moon. But, what he unleashes might spell the end of thousands of lives. Tom faces success and setbacks as a few of the loyal former Elite members of the colony sabotage his efforts to help save the colony. This is the action-packed sequel to Tom Swift and His Space Battering Ram.

The follow up to Tom Swift and the Space Battering Ram, the action begins with an upcoming environmental disaster in California happening at the same time Harlan Ames decides to Search for answers about the Empress Shangi-La, believed to have perished in deep space. He finds a lot more than he set out to. Like, a woman with two personalities who has a near fatal metallic piece sticking out of her head. And a grave. And the remains of a long dead father. Oh, and she used to be the Empress, but now seems to mostly be a child. Meanwhile, Tom sets out to capture an ice-bearing comet to bring into either Earth or Lunar orbit in the hopes of being able to mine the ice and deliver the water to the Earth. There are many obstacles to overcome, not the least of which is how to get it down through the atmosphere to where it is needed. With time running out, Tom takes a big gamble and brings a huge comet into lunar orbit. The next problem is getting the ice cleaned at the colony and back down to the Earth. But to make things just a bit more difficult, the Empress returns to the Moon with plans to regain her strangle hold on the former slaves, now free colonists. Unless Harlan and Tom can manage to stop her.

In this 14th volume in the New Tom Swift Invention Series, Tom hope to improve on a small parlor trick he had come up with months earlier, when the U. S. Navy asks him to find a way to turn stealth ships into truly invisible ones. While it seems to be easier than he ever thought it might be, the young inventor is kidnapped, tossed from a moving truck and his test vehicle, a special read coupe, is stolen. Making matters worse, the thieves include an International terrorist, four rogue FBI agents and a Navy officer gone bad. Now, Tom must discover a way to see through his invisibility shield to hopefully get the coupe back. However, what happens if he succeeds? Does his ability to defeat his own invention mean it now becomes useless?

Author Leo L. Levesque created an alternate world with a female Tom Swift along with a multi-universe with other Toms. His two-volume collection of the five stories may be found on Amazon.com and other locations. Author Tom Hudson couldn't leave well enough alone and so he set out to lampoon the "Tommy" stories-with Levesque's blessing. This volume contains the devastations of stories 1-3 in a matching collection to the first of Levesque's real stories. These may be read with or without reading the originals and actually contain much of the same plot.

One thing all Tom Swift novels have in common is the lack of details about his lesser inventions. How did they come about? Were they part of something else of standalone projects? This series of four collections attempts to put the story behind the 'thingamy' as in, "Tom raced from the room pausing only long enough to cream the thin gamy into his jacket pocket knowing it might come in handy later on." Of course, it usually is a vital device for him, but space and word colt requirements usually meant such details had to be left out.
