US Navy F-14 Tomcat Units of Operation Iraqi Freedom
Since the limited Desert Fox campaign against Iraq in December 1998, the Tomcat has been integral to virtually all combat operations involving the US Navy in the Arabian Gulf. Indeed, on every carrier deployment to the Persian Gulf since Desert Fox, the F-14 unit(s) on station has ventured into 'The Sand Box' over southern Iraq and prosecuted targets operating in contravention to United Nations security council resolutions. This book covers the F-14 Operation Iraqi Freedom actions against battlefield targets and integrated air defence sites, command and control centres, regime leadership targets and military installations in Baghdad, Tikrit, Mosul and Kirkuk.
US Navy Hornet Units of Operation Iraqi Freedom (Part One)
The F/A-18 Hornet in its various guises was the 'universal soldier' of OIF, with around 250 seeing combat. Flown by various squadrons and groups, the Hornet attacked a range of targets including tanks of the various Iraqi Republican Guard units and government buildings housing elements of the Bath party regime. Apart from its ability to drop precision munitions such as laser-guided bombs, the Hornet was also capable of launching anti-radar missiles and acting as an aerial tanker and reconnaissance platform for other strike types. This book explores the Hornet's versatility which has enhanced its reputation as one of the world's leading strike-fighter aircraft.

Scramble! Scramble! Almost 80 years ago the skies over Britain were full of dogfighting aircraft as young pilots of the RAF fought to repel the might of the German war machine. Described by Prime Minister Winston Churchill as 'Their Finest Hour.' The Battle of Britain is a defining moment in recent history and remains an inspiration to us all. Victory 1940 presents a pictorial chronology of the legendary fight, when the might of the Luftwaffe was defeated for the first time by Churchill's 'Few.' The history of the battle as been recounted many times, but this book offers a new and exclusive approach, through razor-sharp contemporary imagery of restored Battle of Britain warbirds combined with extensive archive material previously unpublished. The graphic illustrations of Victory 1940 are supported by a riveting account of the greatest air battle of all time, as seen through the eyes of the combatants from both sides. We witness their triumph and tragedies as they battle for a cause and survival itself. Victory 1940 draws upon John Dibbs' amazing warbird photograpy, and his Battle of Britain restored image archive, which provide fresh insights into the events of 1940 and enhance the compelling text. In his exclusive foreword to Victory 1940, Battle of Britain Hurricane ace Tom Neil calls for 'the need to implant in the minds of the young, the gallantry and sacrifices of those who fought in the Battle of Britain,' and that for this reason the book should be 'read and enjoyed.'

The Hurricane was the RAF's first monoplane fighter and saw significant combat during the fight over France and the Battle of Britain. One of its principal opponents in 1940 was the Bf 110 twin-engined, two-seat heavy fighter. Following the invasion of France, these fighters clashed regularly as the RAF's Hurricanes attacked German bomber formations defended by Bf 110. Although the Hurricane had the upper hand when it came to manoeuverability, the Bf 110 outclassed it in terms of fire power, with its mix of machine guns and cannon. This is the story of the dramatic battles in the skies over France and the Channel as Britain desperately tried to hold back the German onslaught from her shores.

Deemed unsuitable for the Channel Front, lend-lease Tomahawks and kittyhawks instead became the staple fighter of the Desert Air Force in 1941-42, flying with RAF, South African and Australian squadrons in North Africa and the Middle East. Although usually outclassed by the Bf 109, a number of pilots enjoyed some success during the desert campaign - men like Caldwell, Gibbes, Edwards and Drake, all of whom accrued double figure scores, In the Far East, Australian and New Zealand pilots also saw much action against the Japanese in 1942/43, flying over the jungles of New Guinea in defence of the Australian mainland.

The Hawker Hurricane was the RAF's first monoplane fighter, and it dragged the air force in to a position where it could defend Britain during 1940. Hurricanes outnumbered Spitfires during the Battle of Britain by three to one, and actually downed more Luftwaffe aircraft than the famous Supermarine fighter. Even prior to it's "Finest Hour" over southern England, Hurricanes had provided the first RAF aces of the war in France during the Blitzkrieg, and they are described in this volume. In 1941 the type was heavily used in the Mediterranean and North Africa, before being flung in at the deep end in the Far East against the Japanese. US Eagle Squadron pilots also flew the type in the early years of the war, and it saw much combat with the Fleet Air Arm and the Soviet Air Force.
