Electric Discharge Machines (EDM) play a pivotal role in manufacturing across a wide range of industries, including electronics, medical, and aerospace. EDM is applicable for machining modern materials such as metal matrix composites (MMC), alloys, nanomaterials, ceramics, and other difficult-to-cut substances. Notably, EDM allows for machining without direct tool-to-workpiece contact, which eliminates shear stress on the tool, reduces vibrations, and achieves excellent surface finishes. EDM is also capable of producing parts with tight tolerances. The implementation of ISO 14000 standards and the emergence of concepts such as the 6R principles and circular economy have driven various manufacturing sectors toward environmentally conscious and sustainable practices. Additionally, the shift to Industry 5.0 emphasizes sustainable, human-centric, and resilient industries, moving beyond the technology-focused approach of Industry 4.0. Furthermore, global discussions at COP meetings highlight the need for decarbonization in industrial sectors, with goals to achieve net-zero emissions and promote eco-friendly manufacturing.
