This volume contains a review of the main developments in the area of accounting and reporting and also the proceedings of the 27th session of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development’s (UNCTAD's) Intergovernmental Working Group of Experts on International Standards of Accounting and Reporting (ISAR), held in Geneva. The main agenda item of the 27th session of ISAR was a capacity to building framework for high-quality corporate reporting.

Direct cooperation between the private sector and the United Nations (UN) emerged as a significant phenomenon in the late 1990s in response to the complexity of global problems, the scarcity of resources and the failure of multilateral mechanisms to address these issues. While many initially regarded cooperation with the private sector sceptically, the launch of the United Nations Global Compact in 2000 signaled the beginning of a new phase in UN engagement with the private sector – one in which the private sector’s role and responsibility in helping achieve UN development goals, including the Millennium Development Goals, has become politically accepted and operationally scalable. This report charts the evolution of UN to business engagement since 2000.
Planning for Action on Women and Peace and Security
This report reviews different approaches to the implementation of international Women, Peace and Security frameworks, focusing particularly on UN Security Council Resolution 1325, which reaffirms the important role of women in the prevention and resolution of conflicts. It focuses on how the resolution can be incorporated into concrete policy guidelines and programmatic initiatives, and highlights good practices and lessons learnt over the last decades. It is expected that the information and examples contained in the review will support and advance the formulation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of more and stronger Women, Peace and Security action plans that will turn Resolution 1325 into a living reality to improve the situation of women affected by conflict.
