The volume documents the artistic project conceived by the painter Svenja Deininger (Vienna, 1974) for the Maramotti Collection of Reggio Emilia. It’s a cycle of pictorial works inspired by the work of the Polish artist Wladyslaw Strzeminski, protagonist of the historical avant-garde of the 1920s, of which four paintings of the Muzeum Sztuki of Lódz are documented: in her work, although far from the historical and theoretical point of view, Svenja Deininger recognises an unexpected formal affinity and a common deep research on the essence of vision and painting. The compositions of lines and colours of the Austrian artist refer to an abstract dimension, but her imagination draws on a reality of concrete forms and objects, which are transposed and hybridised on the canvas. The flat appearance of the surface of the works is often disrupted by a careful observation which reveals different levels of depth and texture, which the artist obtained by mixing plaster, marble powder or glue with oil colours. For Bonnard the landscapes of Le Cannet and the light of midday were inexhaustible sources of inspiration. It was during his life period in Le Cannet, which lasted almost 22 years, that he painted his most inspired pictures, those which specialists agree are his most beautiful works. Bonnard went on to produce more than 300 works at Le Cannet, some of them intimate, inspired by his private universe. Le Bosquet (“the grove”) was the subject of many compositions: in this pink house Bonnard paints and repaints every corner – the dining room, the small living room, the very famous bathroom. Some are part of the standards of his painting, world famous works: Nude in the Bath, 1936-1938, Nude before a Mirror, around 1934, Getting out of the Bath, around 1926-1930. The book goes on to cover another important aspect of his work: the landscapes. View of Le Cannet with Red Roofs, Stormy Sky over Cannes..., the surrounding landscape deeply affected Bonnard in the same way as the Sainte-Victoire for Cézanne or Giverny for Monet, as a significant territory. It is this story of bond and identity between Bonnard and Le Cannet that gives its deep legitimacy to the museum dedicated to him. Text in English and French.
