Gingival overgrowth is a common feature of gingival disease. The accepted current terminology for this condition is gingival enlargement or gingival over growth. These are strictly clinical descriptive terms and avoid the erroneous pathologic implication of terms used in the past, such as "hypertrophy gingivitis" or "gingival hyperplasia". Gingiva and associated soft tissues of the periodontium may beenlarged in response to various interactions between the host and environment. Gingival enlargement usually represents an inflammatory response to bacterial plaque but it increases susceptibility to systemic factors or condition, so that consideration should be kept in mind during the course of patient evaluation.

Periodontal diseases are a major public health burden and are common around the world. The use of artificial intelligence (AI) technology to enhance periodontal disease diagnosis, treatment planning, and management has gained popularity since its introduction. A thorough summary of the potential advantages, difficulties, and future directions of artificial intelligence's applications in periodontics is what this article seeks to deliver. The role of AI in the identification, risk assessment, treatment planning, and patient care of periodontal disease was investigated through the analysis of fifteen pertinent research. According to the findings, artificial intelligence holds promise for improving periodontics' precision, effectiveness, and individualized service delivery.

Periodontal diseases, comprises a group of different disorders, most of which affect the supporting structures of the teeth and may ultimately result in loss of teeth. The main objective of the periodontal treatment procedures are to arrest the existing periodontal disease and thus create a healthy dentivogingival unit. It is important to restore the various components of the periodontium in their appropriate location, amounts, and relationships to each other- a process referred to as "Tissue Regeneration." This has been the aim of every periodontist and the aspiration of every patient. Guided tissue regeneration (GTR) using barrier membranes with or without bone substitute graft materials is based on the concept of epithelial exclusion in order to promote the healing of periodontal tissues in such a way that the original structure and function is preserved. This procedure aims at the reconstruction of a periodontal ligament (PDL) with well oriented and organized collagen fibers inserted in newly formed cementum and newly regenerated alveolar bone. This book provides an insight into rationale, indications and the various barrier materials used in Guided Tissue Regeneration.
