Walter's newest novel presents a strong sense of personal, familial, and historic pasts interacting with each other, affecting the narrative in the present moment of remembering and reflecting. Memories of combat in Vietnam, growing up in the house of a grandmother filled with her own conflicts, the love and devotion of a caring aunt, dealing with a wayward sister, leaving home, and learning about his grandparents killed in a genocide by the Turks. A powerful linkage binds the memories through fabulous mastery of language, offering intense, reflective insights with a keen perception into complete characters. Walter's imagery is vividly descriptive, beautifully written, rhythmically subdued, and evocative while grounding the work in the immediacy of the everyday. Walter's book is an engaging powerhouse, filled with lyrical beauty. A superb accomplishment. A master craftsman.

Walter's newest novel is an extraordinarily and fabulously written book from his Aunt Catherine's point of view. It is a poignant tale about her memories of her childhood love for horses that she carried with her throughout her life. The story begins when she comes to terms with the nearness of her death. Through her flashbacks Catharine determines to pay a final tribute to the horses that meant everything to her. Walter carefully and skillfully captures her memories in a gratifying novel that shows his aunt's interactions with her horses, developing a zestful look at each horse's traits, appearances, and personalities. With a brilliant stroke, Walter shows his family history through variant stages of their lives: the death of Cathy's beloved step-father, the miscarriage of her first child, the Vietnam War, the political arena that effected American industrialism. This ambitious, stylistically wonderful epic, features many biblical patriarchs as well as Germanic Norse legends, integrating the whole into quite a unique offering. Without a doubt, Walter has achieved a great novel, nicely contrasting Cathy's past physicality with her current frailty, living each day in positive hopes of entering God's Paradise promise. This is a must read for Christians, for horse lovers, and for those who just want to enjoy a good, wholesome novel. Walter is the winner of two major literary awards in additional to a major award for poetry. He has achieved critical acclaim in both Kirkus Book Reviews and Publisher's Weekly, and is a proud Professional member of PEN American Center. - WINNER - 2017 Royal Palm Literary Award, 1st Place (GOLD), Biography
