One was a foreigner and a peasant. The other, a reluctant queen to a man she hardly knew. But their stories have one thing in common: A remarkable faith committed to doing God's will. For both Ruth and Esther, God used stressful circumstances to bring about his eternal purposes. Ruth's commitment to the God of Naomi affected every generation to come, as she became an ancestor of King David and more importantly, Jesus Christ. Esther's obedience led to the preservation of her people at a moment in history when all seemed lost. The stories of Ruth and Esther will make you contemplate: "Would I trust God enough to do what they did?" Go chapter by chapter through the books of Ruth and Esther to see how the lives of these two remarkable women epitomize the type of faith that glorifies God. As you read, ask yourself: "How does God want to use my faithful commitment?" Will he use your life to affect the generations to come, or will he use your life to impact the current generation? Either way, author Warren Wiersbe helps you to be prepared and be committed to God's will no matter what the cost.
Every Christian desires to "be right" about their faith. How we live out our faith holds eternal significance. But in order to be right, we must know what, why, and how come we believe in Christ. It can be argued that no book of the Bible has had a greater effect on Christianity than the book of Romans. Martin Luther described it as "the most important piece in the New Testament," and wrote; "It is well worth a Christian's while not only to memorize it word for word but also to occupy himself with it daily, as though it were the daily bread of the soul." In this classic commentary by Dr. Warren Wiersbe, you can refresh your own understand of this seminal work, Paul's masterpiece letter to the church in Rome. Dr. Wiersbe's careful exposition of the text allows the truth to soak in to your heart and mind as you read and understand these essential truths of Scripture.
We live in an age when everyone is trying to live richer, fuller lives. We're told to buy this, try that, eat those, and say no to the rest, as if that's all we need to do to make our lives complete. Two thousand years ago, the church at Colossae faced similar challenges. The Apostle Paul wrote a letter outlining the only way we can live complete lives: Christ. What can we learn today from this ancient church? Called by many scholars the "most profound letter Paul ever wrote," Colossians warrants a careful, faithful study. In this short, but exciting letter, Paul makes the case for the supremacy of Christ in all things. Best selling author and teacher Warren Wiersbe calls your attention to Paul's essential thoughts on living a complete life--Christ alone--in this easy-to-use commentary on Colossians.

By incorporating biblical characters that have struggled with the same obstacles of faith, pastors, speakers, and teachers make it easier for their listeners to personally apply sermons and lessons. More than just a dictionary of biblical characters, Bible Personalities gives speakers historical context for their messages and simplifies research. Warren W. Wiersbe presents people from Aaron to Zedekiah, offering selected quotes from respected Bible scholars on each character. By putting the thoughts and experiences of these great contributors to work, Wiersbe cracks open complex Bible characters and gives overworked pastors and teachers a simple starting point for effective communication.
Why a theology of prayer? Because counterfeit prayer abounds, we need Scripture's guidance, writes Thomas Constable. Praying as God desires requires considering what God has revealed about it. As we give prayer our careful attention, we gain greater understanding of what he intends it to be. Constable details the different forms of communication God invites us to use. He identifies the counterfeits that pass for prayer, discusses the conditional nature of prayer, and explains why some prayers seem to go unanswered. I could not think of a single aspect of prayer that 'Talking to God' does not address. Thomas Constable lays out for the reader the plain message of the Bible: God has ordained that we should pray, for our own good, and for that of his kingdom. Duane Litfin, President, Wheaton College 'Talking to God' contains all you ever wanted to know about prayer. The author doesn't hesitate to deal with the challenging issues involved in attempting communication between sinful man and a sovereign, all-knowing God. Joseph Aldrich, former President, Multnomah College and Biblical Seminary Thomas L. Constable is Senior Professor of Bible Exposition at Dallas Theological Seminary, where he has taught since 1966.
How I wish this book had been available years ago when I as a young minister tried to preach on the life of King Saul. Dr. Cyril Barber has given us a commentary on 1 Samuel that balances dependable information, spiritual interpretation, and practical application. I predict that in years to come this volume will be a standard reference work for serious Bible students and careful expository preachers. But there is no dull academic atmosphere in these pages. The book is a joy to read. Dr. Barber makes ancient history exciting and practical, and he does so without spiritualizing the text. You will enjoy using this book. It will open up new facets of truth for you to receive and apply in your own life and then share with others. From the Foreword, by Warren W. Wiersbe
Preaching in Black and White offers a unique look at two distinct preaching traditions and the wisdom they have to offer each other. But this book goes much deeper than mere stylistic nuances, for authors E. K. Bailey and Warren Wiersbe are far more than prominent pastors and preachers. They are men with a penetrating understanding of history, culture, and church tradition—and they are friends who genuinely enjoy and respect each other. The warmth of their relationship shines in this book, matched by a depth of honesty and humility as they address topics of vital interest to pastors, speakers, and church leaders of all ethnic backgrounds. In a winsome dialog format, Drs. Bailey and Wiersbe look at the preparation not only of the sermon but also of the preacher’s heart. They discuss sermon content and delivery and how it all comes together in practice. Taking a well-known Bible story, the authors demonstrate and then discuss their distinctive preaching styles and what it takes to learn from others (sermon transcriptions included). A section containing brief biographies of black preachers concludes this engaging and illuminating book.

This innovative book is about preaching and teaching the Word of God in a new and exciting way. Its main premise: biblical preaching is far more than the proclamation of Bible truth. Dr. Wiersbe writes from the perspective of a preacher, writer, and occasional seminary instructor who grew weary of "bringing skeletons into the pulpit and producing cadavers in the pews." He urges preachers to start communicating God's truth the way He communicated it to us in His Word--with imagination!

God has often encouraged me from the first chapter of Joshua, but that doesn't mean that I can walk into the Jordan River and expect it to open up before me. However I have seen Him "open up" difficult situations in ministry as I have trusted him. The Word of God is given to warn us and to offer hope to us. It can only do these things for us only if we receive the Word personally and let it work in our lives. " W. Wiersbe
