William Paley

Evidence of Christianity is a classic religious studies text by William Paley. I deem it unnecessary to prove that mankind stood in need of a revelation because I have met with no serious person who thinks that, even under the Christian revelation, we have too much light, or any degree of assurance which is superfluous.

Natural Theology is a philosophical and theological work written by William Paley, an English clergyman, in 1802. The book argues for the existence of God based on observations of the natural world. Paley uses the analogy of a watch to argue that just as a watch implies the existence of a watchmaker, the complexity and order of the natural world imply the existence of a divine creator. El autor hace en esta excelente obra un estudio comparativo de las Epistolas de Pablo con Los Hechos de los Apostoles y, a la vez, de unas con otras, demostrando que las personas y las circunstancias fueron reales, las cartas autenticas y la narracion correcta e inspirada. Es, pues un libro utilisimo para pastores, estudiantes y amantes del estudio de la Biblia.

William Paley's classic defense of Christianity, "Evidences of Christianity", was sometimes required reading at universities throughout the 1800s. Even those who disputed Christianity were expected to interact with Paley's arguments. Ironically, while many people past and present believe that the evidence for Christianity is discredited, Paley's "Evidences" is as fresh as ever, because many people still find his arguments as compelling as ever. In fact, it could be said that the fact that Christianity's defenses do not need to be updated every century is testimony to the fact that it is in fact true.

The classic Christian apologetics book. This is undoubtably the finest apologetics work of the era, and perhaps of all time. It remained compulsory reading for any applicant to Cambridge University right up to the 20th century. The work primarily investigates the historical evidences for Christianity in miracles and includes one of the best refutations of Hume's arguments ever written. Still highly readable and an absolute joy. Any serious student of the Bible should never be without this volume.
