Within these pages, you'll find the same story you've come to know and love about that famous ill-fated prince of Denmark slightly updated as a satire of today's troubled times. You'll note that all of the artistry of The Bard's words have been stripped away, leaving only the unvarnished truth of the text behind, so even a moron could understand. You'll find this play rewards knowledge of the original text, as it is ultimately a love letter to Shakespeare's original piece.

The authoritative edition of William Shakespeare's historic play Henry V from the Folger Shakespeare Library, the trusted and widely used Shakespeare series for both students and general readers. Henry V is Shakespeare's most famous "war play"; it includes the storied English victory over the French at Agincourt. Some of it glorifies war, especially the choruses and Henry's speeches urging his troops into battle. But we also hear bishops conniving for war to postpone a bill that would tax the church, and soldiers expecting to reap profits from the conflict. Even in the speeches of Henry and his nobles, there are many chilling references to the human cost of war. The authoritative edition of Henry V from the Folger Shakespeare Library includes: -Freshly edited text based on the best early printed version of the play -Newly revised explanatory notes conveniently placed on pages facing the text of the play -Scene-by-scene plot summaries -A key to the play's famous lines and phrases -An introduction to reading Shakespeare's language -An essay by a leading Shakespeare scholar providing a modern perspective on the play -Fresh images from the Folger Shakespeare Library's vast holdings of rare books -An up-to-date annotated guide to further reading -An essay by Catherine Belsey The Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington, DC, is home to the world's largest collection of Shakespeare's printed works, and a magnet for Shakespeare scholars from around the globe. In addition to exhibitions open to the public throughout the year, the folder offers a full calendar of performances and programs. For more information, visit Folger.edu.
Measure For Measure

Often described as one of Shakespeare’s ‘problem plays’, Measure for Measure explores issues of mercy and justice in corrupt Vienna. The Duke makes his strict moralistic deputy, Angelo, temporary leader of Vienna, while he disguises himself as a friar to witness all that ensues. In the comprehensive introduction to this new, fully-illustrated Arden edition, with commentary and notes from A. R. Braunmuller, Robert N. Watson explores the recent increased attention to the play and the shifting judgements of key characters such as the Duke and Isabella. He analyses the social foundations of these changes, their validity as readings of the text, and their manifestations in performance. It also explores the play’s implications on topics including love, marriage, sexuality, consent, mortality, religion, statecraft, moderation, and theatre itself.

Cecile Ladjali
Much Ado about Nothing (Canon Classics Worldview Edition)
"Some Cupid kills with arrows, some with traps." -Hero, Leonato's daughter"If a theatrical performance is primarily seen and heard, the main action in Much Ado About Nothing is principally overheard. The act of noting defines the play. While this dependence on noting seems rather harmless if the task is tricking Beatrice and Benedick to fall in love, Claudio's mistaken noting threatens to upend the comedy and undo all of the matches." -From Elizabeth Howard's IntroductionAs is usual for princes, Don Pedro's courtiers are conniving schemers. But in this case, they're not conniving maliciously -- the only one who wishes him ill is his bastard brother. The others are just plotting to get Beatrice and Benedick to fall in love. As everybody knows, Beatrice would rather listen to a dog bark than a man swear he loves her. And Benedick would prefer a clever horse to a clever woman. Of course, the rest is history... This famous Canon Classic is a perfect comedy full of scandalous doings and snappy retorts. The Canon Classics series presents the most definitive works of Western literature in a colorful, well-crafted, and affordable way.
