An Authentic Narrative of the Loss of the Doddington Indiaman, and of the Adventures of Those on Board who Survived the Shipwreck; From the Journal of one of the Surviving Officers
The 18th century was a wealth of knowledge, exploration and rapidly growing technology and expanding record-keeping made possible by advances in the printing press. In its determination to preserve the century of revolution, Gale initiated a revolution of its own: digitization of epic proportions to preserve these invaluable works in the largest archive of its kind. Now for the first time these high-quality digital copies of original 18th century manuscripts are available in print, making them highly accessible to libraries, undergraduate students, and independent scholars. This collection reveals the history of English common law and Empire law in a vastly changing world of British expansion. Dominating the legal field is the Commentaries of the Law of England by Sir William Blackstone, which first appeared in 1765. Reference works such as almanacs and catalogues continue to educate us by revealing the day-to-day workings of society.++++The below data was compiled from various identification fields in the bibliographic record of this title. The story of my family begins in Kentucky prior to 1884, Chapter I, and leads to the birth of my father, Theodore Wortham Webb, Sr. (Capt. Webb to most of his friends). The title of Captain he acquired while sailing an iron ore ship on the Great Lakes prior to the 1920's. Moving to Florida from Detroit in 1919, at the beginning of the land boom, he homesteaded on Lake Pierce, N. E. of Lake Wales, Florida. Lake Wales, at that time, was only a small settlement in the center of acres and acres of citrus groves. Later he married and moved to Lake Stearns, Florida (later renamed Lake Placid) where he remained rearing his family. Daddy loved Florida. Its jungles, swamps and wildlife he respected and said that all life was a God-given gift for man's enjoyment. He often said that wildlife should never be destroyed unnecessarily, but only killed and eaten for survival. His belief was that everything on this earth is part of a pattern destined to work together to constantly repair and replenish the earth, that all animal and plant life is a network of survival, each with its own intricate design. Relaxation for most people is to read, listen to the radio or watch TV. Daddy liked to read too, but relaxation for him was watching a thunder storm, a sunset, a sunrise, or a bird flitting around in a nearby tree. Many items of interest were told to me over the years of his likes and dislikes and experiences. Now, as an adult, I so much wish he had written down himself what I will endeavor to put on paper. I am writing this with a two-fold purpose in mind. FIRST - I feel an obligation to my two younger brothers, to record as much information as I can about our father who they never had the chance to know. Perhaps, through me, with the help given me by other members of the family in the past, they will be able to know him better and the Florida he loved so much. SECOND - So my children and theirs, in turn, will have these pages to keep alive a little of the family heritage.

Solutions Manual to accompany Combinatorial Reasoning: An Introduction to the Art of Counting
COMBINATORIAL REASONING Showcases the interdisciplinary aspects of combinatorics and illustrates how to problem solve with a multitude of exercises Written by two well-known scholars in the field, Combinatorial Reasoning: An Introduction to the Art of Counting presents a clear and comprehensive introduction to the concepts and methodology of beginning combinatorics. Focusing on modern techniques and applications, the book develops a variety of effective approaches to solving counting problems. Balancing abstract ideas with specific topical coverage, the book utilizes real-world examples with problems ranging from basic calculations that are designed to develop fundamental concepts to more challenging exercises that allow for a deeper exploration of complex combinatorial situations. Simple cases are treated first before moving on to general and more advanced cases. Additional features of the book include: Approximately 700 carefully structured problems designed for readers at multiple levels, many with hints and/or short answersNumerous examples that illustrate problem solving using both combinatorial reasoning and sophisticated algorithmic methodsA novel approach to the study of recurrence sequences, which simplifies many proofs and calculationsConcrete examples and diagrams interspersed throughout to further aid comprehension of abstract conceptsA chapter-by-chapter review to clarify the most crucial concepts covered Combinatorial Reasoning: An Introduction to the Art of Counting is an excellent textbook for upper-undergraduate and beginning graduate-level courses on introductory combinatorics and discrete mathematics.

They didn't surrender-because they didn't believe the war was over. As World War II came to a close, thousands of Japanese soldiers were left stranded across the Pacific. Cut off from command, presumed dead, and isolated on remote islands, they faced a grim choice: die in a final suicidal charge... or vanish into the jungle. Most chose death. But a few chose something else entirely. These were the Japanese holdouts-soldiers who remained hidden, sometimes for decades, refusing to believe the war had ended. From the dense forests of Guam to the mountains of the Philippines, they lived in silence, hardship, and secrecy. Some emerged in the late 1940s. Others-like Hiroo Onoda-would not come out until the 1970s. This book tells their stories-stories of survival, duty, and extraordinary resilience. Far from fanatics or fools, these men were shaped by a fierce sense of honor, loyalty, and the cultural weight of a war that never truly ended for them. Perfect for readers of World War II history, military survival accounts, and those curious about one of the most haunting legacies of the Pacific theater.

Mothers are known to be naturally nurturing and loving, ready to protect and defend her child against the evils of the world. However, what if it is the mother who commits the unthinkable crime of murdering her own flesh and blood? While the rest of the world looks on in utter shock and disbelief, the growing number of infanticide and filicide cases across the globe serves as grim reminders that even innocent, helpless little children are not exempted from extreme cruelty, even from their own mothers. Sadly, many of the women convicted of murdering their own children were able to walk away virtually scot-free and some given minimum sentences. Let us look at the murder cases that rocked the world and gain better insight into what pushed these women to kill their own children.

The prison system is broken. Most are overcrowded and often work to the convicts favor. But the 15 prisons here will have you thankful that overcrowding is the only issue. North Korea's Camp 22 works it's prisoners (including women and children) to death...literally; some estimates say up to 2000 die every year. At Venezuela's Maraciabo prison, 130 inmates were either burned or hacked to death with machetes in 1994. Tadmor Prison in Sryia killed over 1000 of it's inmates in 1980. These are just three of the prisons you'll find in the pages that follow. If this book doesn't scare you straight, nothing will.

Justice is supposed to protect the innocent-but what happens when it fails? Every year, people are arrested, charged, and even imprisoned for crimes they did not commit. Their lives are turned upside down-not because of what they did, but because of how they were seen. Maybe they fit a vague description. Maybe they were judged by the color of their skin. Maybe they were simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. This book tells the stories of 15 people who lived through one of the worst nightmares imaginable: being innocent, yet still convicted. These are not fictional accounts or courtroom dramas. These are true stories of real people-students, parents, workers-who were thrown into the criminal justice system and forced to fight for their freedom and their dignity. Some were exonerated by new evidence. Others were freed through the work of innocence projects. But all of them faced years of fear, trauma, and lost time-time they will never get back. If you think the justice system always gets it right, think again. These powerful, deeply human stories will change how you see the law, the courts, and the meaning of guilt and innocence.
