Because asthmatic children are fragile and inexperienced, they depend on their parents to give them a balanced life. So the quality of parental care, among other factors, is a key determinant of asthma control in children. Parents' levels of education, especially in health matters, form the basis for better quality parental care. This study was conducted in the paediatric emergency and resuscitation department of the CHU Hedi Chaker in Sfax, Southern Tunisia to assess parents' knowledge of asthma and their involvement in the management of this condition. The results obtained confirmed that asthma is a real concern and a problem for parents with an average level of knowledge, especially in terms of the pathophysiology of asthma and the use of treatment, which predisposes this population to more exacerbations, with a consequent deterioration in their quality of life. Given that asthma is the leading chronic disease in children, recognized by some as benign because paediatric mortality is fortunately low, but with a high morbidity rate, it should benefit from major national measures.

Aim: To evaluate the frequency of depression in elderly subjects undergoing hemodialysis and to identify associated factors. Methods: Cross-sectional study that included subjects over 65 years of age with chronic renal failure undergoing periodic hemodialysis in the cities of Tataouine and M denine in southern Tunisia during the month of October 2017. Data were collected through a semi-structured interview of the patient and a family member using three geriatric scales: the Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE), the Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS) and the Katz Autonomy Scale (ADL). Results: Of the 81 patients included, 67% had depression. Depression was significantly associated with: illiteracy, lack of physical activity, lack of leisure activity, presence of a stressor, lack of autonomy, presence of motor disability, presence of a physical comorbidity, pre-dialytic creatinemia⩽ 800μmol/l, hypoprotidemia and cognitive impairment. Conclusion: The development of effective strategies taking into account the risk factors for depression is necessary for adequate management of these patients.
