Caldecott Honoree Zeke Pe a's picture book classic in the making, for fans of Last Stop on Market Street and The Yellow Bus, is an ode to empathy, gratitude, and rediscovering joy--and oneself--in unexpected places, and celebrates the wonder of a flea market. As the sun rises over a border town, a battered box destined for the junkyard tumbles off a truck...and is surprised to land in a bustling flea market. In the past, the box was many things--a lampstand, a wrestling ring, and even a f tbol goal--but eventually it forgot what it truly was. Surrounded by the music of the flea market, the box sees humble treasures on display and hopes it, too, can be someone's treasure. Passed from booth to booth, the box tries--and fails--to find its place...wondering all the while if it will ever be more than someone's forgotten trash. But in this place where families make magic with whatever they have, nothing is "junk" for long. When a young girl gives the box a curious knock, it answers back with a heartbeat of its own.

In his striking author-illustrator debut, Zeke Pe a offers an immersive and fantastical desert adventure, where the sun reigns over the vast landscape and shapes all that it touches. Where the rock wall ends, the desert beyond begins. Following a blazing trail of sundust, two curious siblings hop the wall into a place that's endless and free. Here, prickly old nopal trees beg to be climbed, empty turtle shells invite a closer look, enormous rocks model how to sit still and listen, and a colibr offers an unexpected ride. In the desert, where life revolves around the Sun, brother and sister explore, imagine, and wonder, What if Sun's power was inside me? until their mom's whistle calls them back home again. With spare, lyrical text, Pura Belpr Honor and Ezra Jack Keats Honor recipient Zeke Pe a (illustrator of My Papi Has a Motorcycle) has created a fantastical tale that suspends moments in time with his radiant art and celebrates the bonds between the sun, the desert, and its people.
