Its publication now in pamphlet form is due toits delivery at Harper's Ferry, W. Va., on Decoration day, 1881, and to the fact that the proceeds from the sale of it are to be usedtoward the endowment of a John Brown Professorship in Storer College, Harper's Ferry-an institution mainly devoted to theeducation of colored youth. That such an address could be delivered at such a place, atsuch a time, is strikingly significant, and illustrates the rapid, vastand wonderful changes through which the American peoplehave been passing since 1859. Twenty years ago FrederickDouglass and others were mobbed in the city of Boston, and.driven from Tremont Temple for uttering sentiments concerning. John Brown similar to those contained in this address. Yet nowhe goes freely to the very spot where John Brown committed theoffense which caused all Virginia to clamor for his life, and withoutreserve or qualification, commends him as a hero and martyrin the cause of liberty

Potter, Rev. Ray, was ordained in Rhode Island by the Six Principle Baptistsin 1819, and in 1820 united with the Freewill Baptist church, recently organized at Pawtucket. His letter to the Religious Reformer, May 19, 1821, stated that the revival interest continued amid much persecution, till the church numbered from sixty to seventy members, and $1000 were raised towards a house of worship. At the organization of the Rhode Island Q. M., Oct. 13, 1821, he was chosen clerk. In November, 1822, the church was rent in twain with Daniel Green at the head of one faction and Ray Potter with a majority of the church in the other. His course of conduct and heretical doctrines resulted in his separation from the Q. M. in January, 1823. April 24, 1825, he assisted in the ordination of Martin Cheney in a "Union Conference."

Handbook of Historical Free Will Baptist Burial Places: Pioneer Ministers
This edition has 1820 burial locations from 40 states and 3 foreign countries of the pioneer preachers of a old church organization-Free Will Baptists. It represents all sections of this active denomination as it met the challenges of its day. Whether in New England, where it contributed to the colleges and universities of the time, or sent those to the legislature to maintain the wishes of the founding fathers. Or in the south and west as the movement spread into the mountains and into the plains. This movement's history can be found in the biographies and burial histories in this book in the life of each minister. I have found the history of each minister fascinating. You will also. This book does not represent just the present National Association which was organized in 1935, but the Randall Movement (Northern) before and after the merger with the Northern Baptists in 1911. It includes The southern movement founded by Paul Palmer in North Carolina in 1727 and others that are part of the Free Will Baptist movement, but never were a part of the national convention or who existed prior or separate to it. Such as the Stone, John-Thomas, John Wheeler Associations, North Carolina OFWB and more. It contains hundreds of photos. The sources used for accumulating these hundreds of men and women; were found in graveyard records, county histories, church records, genealogies, biographies, Google research, and valuable denominational resource materials such as: Cyclopedia of Free Baptists, pub. 1889 by Burgess and Ward. But it is the product of hundreds of hours and the help of others to put this book together.
