The course of true brotherhood never did run smooth! 1592. Meet Eddie Shakespeare, determined to follow his big brother William to London to become a player. Eddie’s plan is simple: 1. Run away from home in Stratford. 2. Find his big brother Will in the city. 3. Act in London’s playhouses and win fame and glory. As it turns out, the very last person the aspiring playwright William Shakespeare wants to see is his bothersome little brother, when he has more than enough worries of his own. But the truth is: William Shakespeare’s life is in danger. And worse, only Eddie knows it.

Oh, but the grass is always greener… people warn. Stick with what you know. Be sensible. Don’t rock the boat. A bird in thehand is worth two in the bush. And meanwhile, back in the real world… Yes, we have heard all of that before. And yet. All around us, there are those who dare to dream. Goodbye Day Job is an exhilarating collection of inspiring stories that celebrate the bold individuals who have dared to leave behind the 9-5 grind in pursuit of their true passions. Follow the stories of those who traded in their mundane routines for thrilling new adventures, showcasing the challenges and triumphs along the way. Are you ready to take the first step? Most people come out of school, and then it’s: work, buy stuff, repeat... We wanted to spend time as we see fit – yes, having an adventure, but also giving a little wherever we go. IAIN CAMERON, Technology Entrepreneur to Ocean Adventurers and YouTubers I’d make the same decision again, living overseas, living in a place that is hard, climatically, culturally, linguistically. Sharing what we have - that is a privilege, right?. CATHERINE TUWI, Medic to Missionary

Adventures are good things for people in books. But I am not a person in a book. I am Kenzie. I like to READ about adventures, not actually have them. A hillwalking expedition? With a group of strangers AND Sorley Mackay, the most annoying boy in the universe? Bookworm Kenzie can't believe her bad luck when her teacher announces plans for a three-day hillwalking expedition into the Cairngorms. She tries everything to get out of the trip, but soon the group heads to the hills with mountain leader Bairdy and set up camp for the night. Bairdy's stories of ancient magic fill Kenzie's mind, but in the cold light of morning, they discover that the mountain leader has vanished, his tent left untouched. They are alone. I Don't Do Mountains is an adventure story first and foremost, but in Barbara's vivid first-person narrative, readers can travel to the windy peaks of Scotland's wilderness, and survive, even thrive, like Kenzie and her friends.

The University of Hull’s online Master of Arts in Creative Writing is a two-year course where writers from across the world develop their literary craft. Fostering an atmosphere of collaboration, course modules include Writer’s Craft, Writing The Short Story, Writing The Novel and Writing From Life, culminating in The Writer’s Portfolio - a long-form piece of original work with accompanying academic commentary. In January 2024, this cohort, comprising writers from the Americas, Europe, Asia and Australia, gathered in Kingston-Upon-Hull to celebrate their graduation. Having spent the previous two years building friendships, critiquing one another’s work, pushing creative boundaries and exploring new ways of writing, many finally met in person. As congratulations, conversations (and champagne) flowed, the idea to celebrate this success with the production of an anthology was born. Unrestricted by genre or style, all were encouraged to offer work which expressed themselves freely and showcased skills developed throughout the course. With each contributor’s distinctive voice, this anthology aims to manifest Hull University’s motto and show each of these writers, “Carrying the light of learning”.
