Vem var signaturen A--e?

"Old Hoggen had disappeared: and murder was naturally suspected." At the time of his death in 1912, Bram Stoker was preparing for publication three volumes of stories. The first, Dracula's Guest, saw print in 1914; the second and third never manifested. Old Hoggen and Other Adventures is a tantalising possibility of one of these unrealised selections, and the stories in this volume span the author's entire career. In reading them, one thing becomes clear: adventure and mystery rival even the gothic in Stoker's literary heart. And yet, one will find among these pages many of the same themes found in Dracula: reverence for the dead, the malice of wicked men, black humour, hidden fortunes, daring bravery, exotic locales, a deep love of the sea, and the creeping intrusion of the supernatural.

“I felt a warm rasping at my throat, then came a consciousness of the awful truth, which chilled me to the heart and sent the blood surging up through my brain.” In this intriguing literary fragment—published seventeen years after Bram Stoker’s most famous novel—an English visitor to southern Germany suffers a terrifying ordeal on Walpurgis Nacht: the night when, according to local tradition, supernatural horrors are set free to walk the earth. But perhaps most chilling of all is the appearance of a mysterious telegram purporting to guarantee the Englishman’s safety, a telegram sent by a certain ‘Dracula’…Eris Gems make available in the form of beautifully produced saddle-stitched booklets a series of outstanding short works of fiction and non-fiction.

The central character, Count Dracula, is the most famous vampire in the history of literature. In creating the character, Stoker is said to have been inspired by Vlad III Drăculea. Eleanor of Schwarzenberg of Bohemia may also have served as inspiration for Stoker's novel, as she was seen as a vampire by the people. However, there is no evidence for this legend, nor are there any corresponding passages in Stoker's notes. A possible source of inspiration for Stoker could also have been the noblewoman Elisabeth B thory, a convicted serial killer, known as the "Blood Countess". Gr ls Classics - English Edition
