This edition made to fit most pockets and formatted for a smaller page. Makes a great traveling companion. Childe Harold's Pilgrimage is a classic narrative poem in four parts. It describes the travels and reflections of a world-weary young man who, disillusioned with a life of pleasure and revelry, looks for distraction in foreign lands. Byron, through Childe Harold, regrets his wasted early youth and so re-designs himself on this pilgrimage, which takes him through Portugal, the Mediterranean and Aegean Sea between 1809 and 1811. Many of the events are said to be auto-biographical, with Byron himself initially hesitating to publish the first two cantos of the poem as he felt it revealed too much of himself.

The story, told in seventeen cantos, begins with the birth of Don Juan. As a young man he is precocious sexually, and has an affair with a friend of his mother. The husband finds out, and Don Juan is sent away to Cadiz. On the way, he is shipwrecked, survives, and meets the daughter of a pirate, whose men sell Don Juan as a slave. A young woman who is a member of a Sultan's harem, sees that this slave is purchased. She disguises him as a girl and sneaks him into her chambers. Don Juan escapes, joins the Russian army, and rescues a Muslim girl named Leila. Don Juan meets Catherine the Great, who asks him to join her court. Don Juan becomes sick, is sent to England, where he finds someone to watch over the young girl, Leila. Next, a few adventures involving the artistocracy of Britain ensue. The poem ends with Canto XVII.

This poem is a satirical retelling of the famous story of Don Juan who was a womanizer but in this telling of the story he is constantly being seduced by women and then left off to the side. Lord Byron himself calls this work an "Epic Satire" in which he was never quite sure which direction it would go in with each proceeding canto. The poem was never truly completed as Lord Byron died while he was working on the last and seventeenth canto. Despite it's open ending, the poem was immensely popular during its day for its open sexuality and controversial subject matter than the author used to gather popularity.

Jacopo Foscari, son of the Doge of Venice, has twice been exiled, once for corruption and once for complicity in the murder of Donato, a member of the Council of Ten. He has been recalled from his second exile to answer the capital charge of treason, and as the play opens he is between sessions of interrogation on the rack. The Council decide to sentence him to a third exile, this time perpetual, rather than to death. His father Doge Francesco Foscari signs the sentence of exile, though his spirit is broken by this new disgrace. Jacopo's patriotic spirit cannot brook such a sentence, he longs to die, and he duly does die of a broken heart. The Council of Ten orders the Doge to abdicate, and, as the bells begin to toll to signify the election of a new Doge, the old one falls and dies.

Lord Byron's satirical masterpiece, an epic poem which mimics legendary folklore, is presented here complete for the reader's enjoyment. First published in 1824 to great fanfare, Lord Byron's Don Juan is a comic reworking of the legend of the same name. In an amusing twist, Byron has Don Juan not as a womaniser, but as a man who easily falls prey to various seductresses. This single alteration gives Byron much opportunity for humour, being as Don Juan's plot is riddled with his affairs with many women. At the opening of the text Byron famously mocks Robert Southey, a contemporary Romantic poet who held the esteemed title of Poet Laureate for three decades. The barbed verses mock and skewer what Byron viewed as inadequacies in his rival's form, which Byron himself liberally quotes and maligns. On publication, Don Juan received a generally warm reception for its strident commitment to humour. Over the years the work became considered as one of the foremost achievements of Romantic-era poetry.

George Gordon Byron, 6th Baron Byron FRS (22 January 1788 - 19 April 1824), known as Lord Byron, was an English nobleman, poet, peer, politician, and leading figure in the Romantic movement. He is regarded as one of the greatest British poets and remains widely read and influential. Among his best-known works are the lengthy narrative poems Don Juan and Childe Harold's Pilgrimage as well as the short lyric poem "She Walks in Beauty." He travelled extensively across Europe, especially in Italy, where he lived for seven years in the cities of Venice, Ravenna and Pisa. During his stay in Italy he frequently visited his friend and fellow poet Percy Bysshe Shelley. Later in life Byron joined the Greek War of Independence fighting the Ottoman Empire, for which Greeks revere him as a national hero. He died in 1824 at the age of 36 from a fever contracted in Missolonghi. Often described as the most flamboyant and notorious of the major Romantics, Byron was both celebrated and castigated in his life for his aristocratic excesses, which included huge debts, numerous love affairs with both men and women, as well as rumors of a scandalous liaison with his half-sister. His only legitimate child, Ada Lovelace, is regarded as the first computer programmer based on her notes for Charles Babbage's Analytical Engine. Byron's illegitimate children include Allegra Byron, who died in childhood, and possibly Elizabeth Medora Leigh.

Childe Harold's Pilgrimage by Lord Byron. Childe Harold's Pilgrimage is a lengthy narrative poem in four parts written by Lord Byron. It was published between 1812 and 1818 and is dedicated to "Ianthe". The poem describes the travels and reflections of a world-weary young man who, disillusioned with a life of pleasure and revelry, looks for distraction in foreign lands. In a wider sense, it is an expression of the melancholy and disillusionment felt by a generation weary of the wars of the post-Revolutionary and Napoleonic eras. The title comes from the term childe, a medieval title for a young man who was a candidate for knighthood.
