"You pierce my soul. I am half agony, half hope... I have loved none but you." ― Jane Austen, PersuasionPersuasion is the last novel fully completed by Jane Austen. It was published at the end of 1817, six months after her death. Persuasion has been the subject of several adaptations, including four made-for-television adaptation, theatre productions, radio broadcasts, and other literary works. The story concerns Anne Elliot, a young Englishwoman of twenty-seven years, whose family moves to lower their expenses and reduce their debt by renting their home to an Admiral and his wife. The wife's brother, Navy Captain Frederick Wentworth, was engaged to Anne in 1806, but the engagement was broken when Anne was "persuaded" by her friends and family to end their relationship. Anne and Captain Wentworth, both single and unattached, meet again after a seven-year separation, setting the scene for many humorous encounters as well as a second, well-considered chance at love and marriage for Anne in her second "bloom". The novel was well-received in the early 19th century, but its greater fame came later in the century and continued into the 20th and 21st centuries. Much scholarly debate on Austen's work has since been published. Anne Elliot is noteworthy among Austen's heroines for her relative maturity. As Persuasion was Austen's last completed work, it is accepted as her most maturely written novel, showing a refinement of literary conception indicative of a woman approaching forty yearsage. Her use of free indirect discourse in narrative was in full evidence by 1816. Foreword by Mirta Ines Trupp, the Historical Regency author of "Celestial Persuasion"

Special Collector's edition from Historium PressForeword by Catherine Kullmann, the author of "A Comfortable Alliance" and "A Suggestion of Scandal". Pride And Prejudice, the story of Mrs. Bennet's attempts to marry off her five daughters is one of the best-loved and most enduring classics in English literature. Excitement fizzes through the Bennet household at Longbourn in Hertfordshire when young, eligible Mr. Charles Bingley rents the fine house nearby. He may have sisters, but he also has male friends, and one of these-the haughty, and even wealthier, Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy-irks the vivacious Elizabeth Bennet, the second of the Bennet girls. She annoys him. Which is how we know they must one day marry. The romantic clash between the opinionated Elizabeth and Darcy is a splendid rendition of civilized sparring. As the characters dance a delicate quadrille of flirtation and intrigue, Jane Austen's radiantly caustic wit and keen observation sparkle.

But when she ignores the warnings of her good friend Mr. Knightley and attempts to arrange a suitable match for her protegee Harriet Smith, her carefully laid plans soon unravel and have consequences that she never expected. With its imperfect but charming heroine and its witty and subtle exploration of relationships.

A novel of manners about the romantic?pas de deux?between Elizabeth Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy, two perfectly suited lovers who, at first, find each other insufferable. Despite Elizabeth's negative feelings about Darcy, fate seems determined to keep throwing this pair together, and Darcy, almost?in spite of?himself, will make revelations that will end up causing Elizabeth to question everything she believes. Set in a time when marrying well was a woman's only way to assure a secure and comfortable future, Pride and Prejudice is arguably the forerunner of all romantic comedies and certainly one of the best-loved novels of all time.

This edition includes the Bonus Book: Lady Susan, which will delight Jane Austen fans with its wit and elegant expression. Pride and Prejudice, one of the most popular novels in English literature, with over 20 million copies sold, was written by Jane Austen in 1813. This comedy of manners set in the English countryside follows the vivacious, opinionated heroine, Elizabeth Bennet, as she learns about the repercussions of first impressions and the difference between superficial and actual goodness. Her father, Mr. Bennet, has a problem. He has five unmarried daughters and no sons. Since his wife lacks an inheritance and his property can only be passed to a male heir, his family will become penniless upon his death. Thus, at least one of the girls must marry well in order to support the others. Their mother's sharp eye is constantly seeking that wealthy single man even though her daughters aren't totally on board with marrying anyone flung at them. When a wealthy and sociable young gentleman, Charles Bingley, rents a nearby manor, the opportunity to find husbands presents itself. His handsome, intelligent, yet arrogant and somewhat socially awkward friend, the aristocratic landowner Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy, is repeatedly forced into the company of Bennet's independent-minded daughter Elizabeth, who must overcome the prejudice of her first impression and open herself up to the idea of a romance between the two. Jane Austen's radiant wit sparkles throughout as many subtle shades of pride do battle with countless layers of prejudice in this ultimate "happy ever after" tale.

Enjoy Jane Austen’s mastery of irony, dialogue, and realism in the unforgettable love story Pride and Prejudice, then share this classic piece of literature with a new generation. When headstrong and independent Elizabeth Bennet is required to find a wealthy husband, her encounter with the arrogant Mr. Darcy leads to one of the most entertaining and satisfying courtships ever imagined. Beyond the romance, Pride and Prejudice is a book full of humor and wit that is also a commentary on upper-class social manners at the turn of the nineteenth century. Even though it is concerned with love and marriage, the novel is a rejection of Romanticism, a popular way of imagining the world at that time. Austen preferred to highlight the rational abilities of her characters and not portray them as completely controlled by their emotions. Pride and Prejudice’s characters aren’t robots, though. Austen shows universal situations in a perfectly clear light—embarrassment when someone is foolish, the nervous feeling of falling in love, and the chagrin caused by making a big mistake. Austen’s mastery of irony, dialogue, and realism support character development and make Pride and Prejudice a pure pleasure to read. Complete and unabridged, this elegantly designed, jacketed hardcover edition features an introduction by Victorian literature scholar Deborah Lutz and a timeline of the life and times of Jane Austen.
