It has remained perhaps the best-loved and most-read of devotional fiction. It is a captivating allegory of man's religious journey in search of salvation and follows the pilgrim as he travels an obstacle-filled road to the Celestial City. Along the way, he is confronted by monsters and spiritual terrors, among them Worldly Wiseman, Giant Despair, and the demons of the Valley of the Shadow of Death. In plain yet effective and moving language, this adventure reveals John Bunyan's intense grasp of the Scriptures. Penned while in prison for refusing to compromise the gospel-it is a guide for the journey from death to life. The times have changed, but the landmarks and adversaries are very much the same.

The Pilgrim's Progress from This World, to That Which Is to Come is a 1678 Christian allegory written by John Bunyan. It is regarded as one of the most significant works in English literature. ""Pilgrim's Progress"" concerns the path of one's soul to Heaven. It recounts the story of Christian, who appears to the author in a dream, and his journey to Heaven through the trials and tribulations of life. He meets many like-minded pilgrims on his way, such as Faithful and Hopeful, but before they attain their goal they encounter the Giant Despair and the River of Death itself.
The Holy War Made by King Shaddai Upon Diabolus, to Regain the Metropolis of the World, Or, The Losing and Taking Again of the Town of Mansoul is a 1682 novel by John Bunyan. This novel, written in the form of an allegory, tells the story of the town ""Mansoul"" (Man's soul). The epicenter of this book is the town of Mansoul, its people (such as Conscience, Self-Denial, and Do-Right), and its gates (Eye-gate, Ear-gate, Mouth-gate, Nose-gate, and Feel-gate). The attack by Diabolus and his demons, all of whom have appropriate names, is carefully planned and executed. As still happens to men today, Mansoul fell hard. Emmanuel is of course willing to help, but can only do so on special, seemingly strict terms. As you watch this intense battle unfold, you'll be emboldened to fight with new vigilance, to guard the gates with tenacity, and to rely on Emmanuel's sovereignty like never before.

The Pilgrim's Progress from This World, to That Which Is to Come is a Christian allegory written by John Bunyan in 1678 while in the Bedfordshire county prison for holding religious services outside the auspices of the established Church of England. It is regarded as one of the most significant works of religious, theological fiction in English literature. It has been translated into more than 200 languages and has never been out of print. It has also been cited as the first novel written in English. According to literary editor Robert McCrum, "There's no book in English, apart from the Bible, to equal Bunyan's masterpiece for the range of its readership, or its influence on writers as diverse as William Thackeray, Charlotte Bronte, Mark Twain, C. S. Lewis, John Steinbeck, and even Enid Blyton." More than three hundred years later, this Christian masterpiece continues to lift and inspire. This edition includes hundreds of helpful explanatory footnotes and has been newly designed and typeset by Waking Lion Press.

Grace Abounding to the Chief of SInners is a Puritan spiritual autobiography composed while Bunyan was serving a twelve-year prison sentence for preaching without a license. The religious tolerance which had allowed Bunyan the freedom to preach became curtailed with the restoration of the monarchy in 1660. The book chronicles Bunyan's conversion to Puritanism and his struggles with those with different views than his own. In prison, Bunyan had a copy of the Bible and of John Foxe's Book of Martyrs, as well as writing materials. He also had at times the company of other preachers who had been imprisoned. It was in Bedford Gaol that he wrote Grace Abounding and started work on The Pilgrim's Progress. This case laminate collector's edition includes a Victorian inspired dust-jacket.
