"Sovremennaja komedija" - vtoraja trilogija epicheskogo tsikla o seme Forsajtov - seme, v istorii kotoroj, kak v zerkale, otrazilas sama istorija Anglii pervoj treti XX veka. Vremena menjajutsja. Staromodnye predstavlenija o ljubvi i druzhbe, vernosti i chesti okazyvajutsja smeshnymi, nelepymi. Zhenschiny stanovjatsja nezavisimymi, reshitelnymi, ironichnymi, a muzhchiny - ustalymi, mudrymi i ravnodushno-tsinichnymi. Nad pokoleniem "dzhazovykh 20-kh" navisla ten nedavno proshedshej Pervoj mirovoj. I kazhdyj iz geroev trilogii - soznatelno ili net - stal, v toj ili inoj stepeni, zhertvoj etoj vojny.

John Galsworthy's celebrated Forsyte Saga, consisting of three novels and two interludes, completely reinvented and revitalised the family saga in the early twentieth century. Masterfully written and utterly absorbing to read, it tells the multi-generational story of a sprawling upper middle-class family, centred on the frustrated, possessive Soames and his disastrous marriage with the beautiful, enigmatic Irene. This new edition from Benediction Classics conveniently unites the first complete 3-volume compilation of 1922 into a single book, containing all of The Man of Property, Indian Summer of a Forsyte, In Chancery, Awakening and To Let.
