Through the Looking Glass and What Alice Found There Through the Looking Glass and What Alice Found There is a children's novel written by Lewis Carroll in 1871.1 It is the continuation of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (although it does not make references to what happens in that book). Many things that happen in the book seem, metaphorically, reflected in a mirror. While the first book plays with living cards, this time Alice is involved in a crazy game of chess. Carroll provides us with a list of the movements that occur in it, although some of them go against the rules of the game, as if it were a small child who was playing. Lewis Carroll Charles Lutwidge Dodgson (Daresbury, Cheshire, UK; January 27, 1832-Guildford, Surrey, UK; January 14, 1898), better known by his pseudonym Lewis Carroll, was an Anglican deacon, logician, mathematician, photographer and British writer. His best known works are Alice in Wonderland and its continuation, Through the Looking Glass and What Alice Found There.

-- Lewis Carroll is a pen-name: Charles Lutwidge Dodgson was the author's real name and he was lecturer in Mathematics in Christ Church, Oxford. Dodgson began the story on 4 July 1862, when he took a journey in a rowing boat on the river Isis in Oxford together with the Reverend Robinson Duckworth, with Alice Liddell (ten years of age) the daughter of the Dean of Christ Church, and with her two sisters, Lorina (thirteen years of age), and Edith (eight years of age). As is clear from the poem at the beginning of the book, the three girls asked Dodgson for a story and reluctantly at first he began to tell the first version of the story to them. There are many half-hidden references made to the five of them throughout the text of the book itself, which was published finally in 1865. Alice's Adventures in Wonderland was first translated into Romanian in the 1940s. Since then, more than twenty translations have been published, apart from various retellings and abridgements. The present one aims to contribute to the Romanian array of translations with a more modern and up-to-date version, keeping up with the current audience.

One of the best-known and most popular works of English-language fiction, its narrative, structure, characters and imagery have been enormously influential in popular culture and literature, especially in the fantasy genre. The work has never been out of print, and it has been translated into at least 97 languages. Its ongoing legacy encompasses many adaptations for stage, screen, radio, art, theme parks, board games, and video games. Carroll published a sequel in 1871, entitled Through the Looking-Glass, and a shortened version for young children, The Nursery "Alice", in 1890.

"Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" is a summer tale published by Lewis Carroll (Charles Lutwidge Dodgson) for the first time in July 1865. Many of the characters and adventures in that book have to with a pack of cards. "Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There" is a winter tale, which Carroll first published in December 1871. In this second tale, the characters and adventures are based on the game of chess. This book contains the famous illustrations of Sir John Tenniel, which first appeared in the original English edition. The fonts used in this edition have been designed with the intention of making reading easier for people with dyslexia. OpenDyslexic3 (used for the body text) and OpenDyslexic (used for its italics) were designed by Abelardo Gonzalez and Lexia Readable (used for the chapter titles drop-caps, and headers) was designed by Keith Bates. Research suggests that dyslexic-friendly fonts are not always effective for all readers; it hoped nevertheless that this edition may help at least some readers to enjoy Alice's adventures.

In 1865, English author CHARLES LUTWIDGE DODGSON (1832-1898), aka Lewis Carroll, wrote a fantastical adventure story for the young daughters of a friend. The adventures of Alice-named for one of the little girls to whom the book was dedicated-who journeys down a rabbit hole and into a whimsical underworld realm instantly struck a chord with the British public, and then with readers around the world.

One moment Alice is sitting along the banks of a river admiring the wind, the next she is tumbling down a rabbit hole. Far away from the life she was used to, Alice’s adventures in the fantastical, and oh-so-strange, Wonderland is delightfully bizarre and tremendously entertaining. From the mind of a creative, kooky, genius, comes the unforgettable story of a young girl’s journey through and odd land. Equal parts political commentary and societal satire, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland is an iconic coming of age story as seen through the expert lens of a child’s imagination. Delicate, bizarre, and utterly nonsensical at times, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland remains as a literary treasure for all who dare to dream, wonder, think and explore. With an eye-catching new covers and a new informative note about the author, this edition of Alice in Wonderland is both modern and readable

'Alice was beginning to get very tired of sitting by her sister on the bank, and of having nothing to do: once or twice she had peeped into the book her sister was reading, but it had no pictures or conversations in it, "and what is the use of a book," thought Alice, "without pictures or conversations?"'So begins the tale of Alice, following a curious White Rabbit down a rabbit-hole and falling into Wonderland. A fantastical place, where nothing is quite as it seems: animals talk, nonsensical characters confuse, Mad Hatter's throw tea parties and the Queen plays croquet. Alice's attempts to find her way home become increasingly bizarre, infuriating and amazing in turn. A beloved classic, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland has continued to delight readers, young and old for over a century.
