In over seventy-five years of dynamic public activity, he delivered more than 8,000 lectures in the United States and abroad, and authored countless books, essays, and articles. In his lectures and writings, Manly Hall always emphasized the practical aspects of philosophy and religion as they applied to daily living. He restated for modern man those spiritual and ethical doctrines which have given humanity its noblest ideals and most adequate codes of conduct. Believing that philosophy is a working tool to help the individual in building a solid foundation for his dreams and purposes, Manly Hall steadfastly sought recognition of the belief that world civilization can be perfected only when human beings meet on a common ground of intelligence, cooperation, and worthy purpose.
Complete in itself, this volume originated as a commentary and expansion of Manly P. Hall's masterpiece of symbolic philosophy, The Secret Teachings of All Ages. In Lectures on Ancient Philosophy, Manly P. Hall expands on the philosophical, metaphysical, and cosmological themes introduced in his classic work, The Secret Teachings of All Ages. Hall wrote this volume as a reader's companion to his earlier work, intending it for those wishing to delve more deeply into the esoteric philosophies and ideas that undergird the Secret Teachings. Particular attention is paid to Neoplatonism, ancient Christianity, Rosicrucian and Freemasonic traditions, ancient mysteries, pagan rites and symbols, and Pythagorean mathematics. First published in 1929-the year after the publication of Hall's magnum opus-this edition includes the author's original subject index, twenty diagrams prepared under his supervision for the volume, and his 1984 preface, which puts the book in context for the contemporary reader.
This pamphlet is an essay enabling individuals to distinguish between 'black' and 'white' magic, thereby avoiding practices and disciplines which may be detrimental to character and dangerous to physical health. As Paracelsus noted centuries ago, the invisible realms of nature are governed by immutable laws which cannot be violated with impunity. In recent years researchers in many fields have been exploring the hidden side of life and nature, but few of them have given serious consideration to the moral and ethical responsibilities associated with their labors. The tendency has been to assume that the transcendental arts, like the resources of the physical world, can be exploited without regard for consequences. As in the case of the sorcerers of long ago, the principal objective is the binding of invisible energies for the advancement of personal ambitions. Many innocent persons have become involved in magical practices and disciplines which are detrimental to character and dangerous to physical health. The abuse of powers and forces as yet but partly understood must result in both psychical and psychological tragedy. In this little essay, I have attempted to present in concise form a code of rules which, if faithfully followed, will protect both the individual and society. We are fully aware that the materialistic approach on any level of esoteric knowledge is contrary to the universal plan. We must all accept the burdens that come from the exploration of natural mysteries and dedicate our findings to the glory of God and the well-being of all humanity. Topics include: Children of the False Darkness The Philosophy of Opportunity The Fruitage of Black Magic: The Left-Hand Path The Fruitage of White Magic: The Right-Hand Path The Mechanics of Opportunity Definitions of Magic The Power of Demons The Source Power in Magic The Power of Black Magic The Demoniacal Powers of the Ancients Spiritual Research The Mechanics of Magic
Mr. Hall, himself an honorary 33x Mason, reveals the profounder aspects of this ancient Fraternity which has been a source of inspiration to so many individuals through the centuries. The basic symbolism of the three degrees of the Blue Lodge is explained. The text can be read with profit by both new and old Masons, for within its pages lies an interpretation of Masonic symbolism which supplements the monitorial instruction usually given in the lodges. The leading Masonic scholars of all times have agreed that the symbols of the Fraternity are susceptible of the most profound interpretation and thus reveal to the truly initiated certain secrets concerning the spiritual realities of life. Freemasonry is therefore more than a mere social organization a few centuries old, and can be regarded as a perpetuation of the philosophical mysteries and initiations of the ancients. This is in keeping with the inner tradition of the Craft, a heritage from pre-Revival days. The present volume will appeal to the thoughtful Mason as an inspiring work, for it satisfies the yearning for further light and leads the initiate to that Sanctum Sanctorum where the mysteries are revealed. The book is a contribution to Masonic idealism, revealing the profounder aspects of our ancient and gentle Fraternity - those unique and distinctive features which have proved a constant inspiration through the centuries. Chapters Include: Chapter I - The Eternal Quest Chapter II - The Candidate Chapter III - The Entered Apprentice Chapter IV - The Fellow Craft Chapter V - The Master Mason Chapter VI - The Qualifications of a True Mason Epilogue

The oldest, the most profound, the most universal of all symbols is the human body. The Greeks, Persians, Egyptians, and Hindus considered a philosophical analysis of man's triune nature to be an indispensable part of ethical and religious training. The mysteries of every nation taught that the laws, elements, and powers of the universe were epitomized in the human constitution, that everything which existed outside of man had its analogue within man. Here, renowned scholar Manly P. Hall covers the symbolism of the human body from a variety of angles. He goes over various parts of the body and what different cultures throughout time have believed. He examines everything from our extremities and hands to our eyes, heart and brain. He touches on the ancient mysteries, the Greeks, early Christianity, the Hebrew Qabbalists, and much more.
This is a book of allegories setting forth in story form the spiritual mysteries of life. Its message is for the heart rather than the mind, and its purpose is to call forth certain definite mystical attitudes latent in every person. Each chapter is accompanied by appropriate illustration.
Renowned masonic scholar Manly P. Hall takes a look at the masonic origins in biblical stories, the Dionysiac architects, Solomon who is the personification of universal wisdom and the fraternity's priceless heritage.

This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the original Manly P. Hall monthly magazine, The All Seeing Eye. for Vol.1. Numbers: 1-6. 1924. The All Seeing Eye. was a monthly magazine devoted to Hall's writings in search for those fundamental thruths existing in the educational systems, religions, and philosophies of all ages. Each issue contains articles on several topics such as: The Great Pyramid; Magic and Sorcery of the Far East; Translation from the Third Book of Mathesis; The Secret Key to Mystic and Masonic Christianity. Manly P. Hall was born on March 18, 1901 in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada as Manly Palmer Hall. He is known for his work on When Were You Born (1938), Nostradamus IV (1944) and American Experience (1987). He was married to Marie Bauer and Fay Bernice Lee. He died on August 29, 1990 in Los Angeles, California, USA. A noted scholar in the fields of mysticism, alternative religions and the occult. He is best known for his 1928 book, "The Secret Teachings of All Ages: An Encyclopedic Outline of Masonic, Hermetic, Qabbalistic and Rosicrucian Symbolical Philosophy." Hall took a closer look into sources that many historians refused to consider - from Masonic and Rosicrucian tracts to alchemical and astrological works - and recent scholarship has justified some of his historic conclusions. Hall clarified ancient ideas that could otherwise seem beyond reach, writing not as a distant judge but as a lover of the rites and mysteries embodied in the old ways. Esoteric scholar Manly P. Hall covers a lot of areas regarding the wonders of antiquity, the Greek oracles, the seven wonders of the world, the worship of Apollo, the oracle at Delphi, and other related, ancient mysteries.
Notable esoteric writer and scholar examines the history and symbology of the zodiac. The word zodiac is derived from the Greek zodiakos, which means a circle of animals, or, as some believe, little animals. It is the name given by the old pagan astronomers to a band of fixed stars about sixteen degrees wide, encircling the earth. It is difficult to estimate correctly the profound effect produced upon the religions, philosophies, and sciences of antiquity by the study of the planets, luminaries, and constellations. Not without adequate reason were the Magi of Persia called the Star Gazers.
The story of unfolding of the esoteric tradition in the Western Hemisphere is told, beginning with the rites and mysteries of the Mayas and Aztecs. Parallels are drawn between the miracles of the North American Indian medicine priests and those of the wonder workers of India. Also included: an account of the Incas of Peru and their possible contact with Asia. Space is devoted to the riddle of Columbus, the role of Lord Bacon in organizing the English settlements in America, and the contributions of the German mystics through the Pietists, Mennonites, Dunkers, and Quakers. The American Revolutionary period and important personalities of that time are examined, as are the Latin American patriots such as Simon Bolivar, Miguel Hidalgo, and Benito Juarez.

The unifying factor of this collection is that, without exception, every author included here was in some way or another involved with or interested in the occult. In some cases, they were members of an occult organization, such as the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, the Theosophical Society or similar such groups. Others simply had a strong personal interest in the subject matter or practiced some form of the esoteric sciences in private, their interests having been preserved through diary entries and letters to their peers or documented by the publishing legacy they left behind. The co-mingling of fiction and non-fiction is very much how this written material would have been published at the time. Writers include Manly P. Hall, Aleister Crowley, Algernon Blackwood, Helena P. Blavatsky, Arthur Machen, Franz Hartmann, Lafcadio Hearn, Lord Dunsany, C. W. Leadbeater, William Q. Judge, H. W. Percival and Richard Garnett.
