In a career that spanned half a century, Caroline Durieux, a master lithographer, created prints that chronicled the beauty and absurdity of academia, New Orleans's famed Carnival season, characters observed from everyday life, and more. Caroline Durieux: Lithographs of the Thirties and Forties brings together fifty-eight images that reveal her keen understanding of both the comic and tragic aspects of satire. These remarkable works, with accompanying text by art historian Richard Cox, establish her place within the tradition of American satirical art. A new foreword by art historian Sally Main and archivist Susan Tucker considers Durieux's life and influence from her main periods of activity through the present day. Born in New Orleans in 1896, Durieux spent several years with her husband in Cuba before the two settled in Mexico City for a decade, and Latin American settings inspired some of her earliest forays into lithography. Her time in Mexico also brought her into contact with Diego Rivera, whose enthusiasm for her work brought her national and international attention. When Durieux returned to the United States in 1936, she taught art classes and held several positions with the Works Progress Administration (WPA), where she championed local artists and oversaw the creation of an index of Louisiana art and numerous public art projects. The prints collected in this volume showcase the artist's humor as well as her keen eye for the scenes and people she encountered in Louisiana and abroad. Originally published in 1977 and long unavailable, Caroline Durieux: Lithographs of the Thirties and Forties finally returns to print.

Now centered on Greensboro, Winston-Salem and High Point, the Triad was home to one of North Carolina's earliest brewery operations in the Moravian community of Bethabara. Easy access by rail and then highways attracted national breweries, and starting in the 1960s, the region began producing beer for companies like Miller and Schlitz. The passage of the Pop the Cap legislation led to an explosion of craft beer and brewpubs, and in 2019, three of the top five producing craft breweries in North Carolina were anchored in the area. Local beer historians Richard Cox, David Gwynn and Erin Lawrimore narrate the history of the Triad brewing industry, from early Moravian communities to the operators of nineteenth-century saloons and from Big Beer factories to modern craft breweries.

This is a self-help book, categorically and intentionally. It seems arogant to say your going to be helped by the writings, memos and stories I have laid out in these pages. But revealed in the following pages are many of the answers mankind has sought throughout the ages. I don't care what your current situation might be, if you finish this book I believe you will be better in exchange for the time you have spent reading or listening to these words. I don't care what media you consume this information with, if you walk away with one idea or concept that helps you in navigating this life you will never be the same. The information and concepts are so simple and yet so revolutionary that when applied to your life you have no more say in the matter. If you do them... You will simply and unequivocally succeed When you share it with your friends a community of success will rise around you and the challenges of life fade into insignificance. I say it that way because pain, suffering and challenges in life never end, it is a condition of a fallen world. The good news is that from the beginning of time there is wisdom laid down by the creator of the universe that pulls back the lies, revealing a way to live above every challenge of life. This will not be a normal book, you will not experience a formal tale with a beginning, middle and end. Life doesn't unfold that way, life often sneaks up on us and happens when we least expect. I am intentionally blowing the norms of literary precedence and chaining together stories, parables, antidotes, and personal experiences that will jump around so violently that it makes your logical mind spin. Life is chaos brought into order and so are the Reflections of a dead man. Enjoy

Both a haunting coming-of-age story set in North Texas against the backdrop of a deadly tornado, and a character-driven, deeply-affecting supernatural thriller. In 1979, a massive tornado devastates the city of Wichita Falls, Texas, leaving scores dead, thousands homeless, and nine-year-old Todd Willis in a coma, fighting for his life. Four years later, Todd awakens to a world that looks the same but feels different in a way he can’t quite grasp. For Todd, it's a struggle to separate fact from fiction as he battles lingering hallucinations from his long sleep. The new friends Todd makes in 1983 are fascinated with his experience and become mesmerized by his strange relationship with the world. Together the five boys come of age during a dark, fiery summer where they find first love, betrayal, and a secret so terrible they agree to never speak of it again. But darkness returns to Wichita Falls twenty-five years later, and the boys?now men?are forced to reunite and confront the wounds from their past. When their memories of that childhood summer refuse to align with reality, the friends embark upon a search for truth that will threaten their lives, and transform their understanding of each other?and the world itself?forever.
