General View of the Agriculture of the County of Nottingham, With Observations on the Means of its Improvement. Drawn up for the Consideration of the Board of Agriculture and Internal Improvement. By Robert Lowe, Esq. of Oxton
The 18th century was a wealth of knowledge, exploration and rapidly growing technology and expanding record-keeping made possible by advances in the printing press. In its determination to preserve the century of revolution, Gale initiated a revolution of its own: digitization of epic proportions to preserve these invaluable works in the largest archive of its kind. Now for the first time these high-quality digital copies of original 18th century manuscripts are available in print, making them highly accessible to libraries, undergraduate students, and independent scholars. Medical theory and practice of the 1700s developed rapidly, as is evidenced by the extensive collection, which includes descriptions of diseases, their conditions, and treatments. Books on science and technology, agriculture, military technology, natural philosophy, even cookbooks, are all contained here.++++The below data was compiled from various identification fields in the bibliographic record of this title. A unique view of life that reveals a positive flow of the universe. Using fanciful 'Word Forms' that create 99 pages of an informational poetic view of events and thoughts, interspersed with 113 pages of extraordinary photography, and works of art by seven artists whose ages range between seven and 119, had our eldest been still with us. The purpose is to open the mind with an environment of beautiful imagery, set in a context of cognitive dissonance. The goal is to challenge the reader to look more deeply into any of the thousands of references which are captured in time frames, specifically not in chronological order within the frames. It begins with a fantasia of the advent of the physical universe, and ends with the challenge of tomorrow. Finally, the book, and the process have been a 30 year research project. It provides, by way of a huge literature, and life search, an indication that our presence on this small blue-green globe helps us see that there is little question that: while some bad ones there have been surely, the "greater number" of all the things related to our presence here are very good indeed, .

Fundamentals of Continuum Mechanics provides a clear and rigorous presentation of continuum mechanics for engineers, physicists, applied mathematicians, and materials scientists. This book emphasizes the role of thermodynamics in constitutive modeling, with detailed application to nonlinear elastic solids, viscous fluids, and modern smart materials. While emphasizing advanced material modeling, special attention is also devoted to developing novel theories for incompressible and thermally expanding materials. A wealth of carefully chosen examples and exercises illuminate the subject matter and facilitate self-study.

GI Emergencies: A Quick Reference Guide contains practical information regarding the diagnosis and management of common gastrointestinal emergencies. Each chapter is written by a fellow or resident with an experienced clinician. This offers the perspective of a trainee, who has many basic questions about how to handle a given situation, combined with the experience of a seasoned practitioner who can guide the work-up and treatment of each clinical case. The result is a reference that provides the clinical acumen of a trained gastroenterologist in an easy-to-use format for physicians to approach GI emergencies efficiently and thoroughly. The dual-perspectives blend perfectly together to create a practical, evidence-based read for the learning physician. In GI Emergencies: A Quick Reference Guide, Dr. Robert C. Lowe and Dr. Francis A. Farraye, along with 20 contributors, help physicians deal with problems as they occur in a “real-time” format. Some Topics Include: • Evaluation and management of acute liver failure • Caustic ingestions, foreign bodies, and food impaction • Nonvariceal upper GI hemorrhage • Acute pancreatitis • Complications of endoscopy The case-based format is less formal than that of a typical textbook, making it enjoyable without losing the educational value and evidence-based recommendations needed to provide excellent patient care. With succinct key teaching points, GI Emergencies: A Quick Reference Guide assists physicians who are training interns, residents, and medical students in training, making it an all-around reference for those in the gastroenterology field.
Public Schools in Hard Times

Public Schools in Hard Times

In the first social history of what happened to public schools in those “years of the locust,” the authors explore the daily experience of schoolchildren in many kinds of communities—the public school students of working-class northeastern towns, the rural black children of the South, the prosperous adolescents of midwestern suburbs. How did educators respond to the fiscal crisis, and why did Americans retain their faith in public schooling during the cataclysm? The authors examine how New Dealers regarded public education and the reaction of public school people to the distinctive New Deal style in programs such as the National Youth Administration. They illustrate the story with photographs, cartoons, and vignettes of life behind the schoolhouse door. Moving from that troubled period to our own, the authors compare the anxieties of the depression decade with the uncertainties of the 1970s and 1980s. Heirs to an optimistic tradition and trained to manage growth, school staff have lately encountered three shortages: of pupils, money, and public confidence. Professional morale has dropped as expectations and criticism have mounted. Changes in the governing and financing of education have made planning for the future even riskier than usual. Drawing on the experience of the 1930s to illuminate the problems of the 1980s, the authors lend historical perspective to current discussions about the future of public education. They stress the basic stability of public education while emphasizing the unfinished business of achieving equality in schooling.
