Through the voices of seven young people around the world, the Youth Supplement illustrates how issues in the main report are related to youth. Rather than presenting a lot of data and analysis, the Youth Supplement tells real to life stories of individuals. As climate change’s impacts intensify, young people are confronted with an increasing number of challenges and will also be tasked with the long-term challenge of solving a problem that began even before they were even born. Young people must already be fully involved in the response to climate change. Young people are affected as much as everyone else and therefore deserve to have a seat at the table and to have their concerns taken seriously.
The report highlights the continued challenge posed by high unemployment rates in many economies and outlines a number of risks and uncertainties for the economic outlook such as a premature withdrawal of policy stimulus, increased exchange rate volatility and a renewed widening of global imbalances. Against this background, several policy challenges are discussed in greater detail, including the optimal design of fiscal policies as well as the coordination between fiscal and monetary policies, the provision of sufficient support to developing countries in addressing the fallout from the crisis and the coordination of policy measures at the international level.

The Protocol on Water and Health, jointly serviced by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and the Regional Office for Europe of the World Health organisation (WHO to EURO), has been negotiated specifically to ensure, by linking water management and health issues, the supply of safe drinking water and adequate sanitation for everyone. The Protocol recognizes the complexity of the water and health nexus and requires Parties to tackle problems at their roots in a rational and coordinated way. The Guidelines illustrate the steps that need to be taken and the aspects to be considered when setting targets, implementing relevant measures and assessing and reporting on the progress achieved. The Guidelines are based on existing good practices and experience of the Protocol’s Parties. They illustrate a variety of possible targets that can be set in accordance with the Protocol and provide a source of inspiration, information and assistance to parties that are currently undergoing or will go through the process of target setting. The Guidelines will serve national and local authorities and others engaged in the implementation of the Protocol.

This document describes and analyses implementation of e-health in several European countries, as well as strengths and weaknesses, using this experience in order to support the management and execution of this kind of projects in other scenarios. Five EU member states evidencing different degrees of advancement in their national e-health projects have been selected for this purpose: Belgium, Denmark, Spain, the United Kingdom and Sweden. In addition to these five cases, a brief study has been made of several international collaboration projects for the implementation of cross-border spaces for e-health that most of these countries are currently participating in.
Adoption is one of the oldest social institutions. Nevertheless, adoption still raises highly emotive issues because of its fundamental implications for the meaning of familial ties. Questions on whether adoption serves the best interests of children, who should be allowed to adopt and the role of governments in regulating such decisions are frequent subjects of debate. This publication is an extract from the larger report entitled Child Adoption: Trends and Policies, the first study of its kind undertaken by the Population Division of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs of the United Nations Secretariat. The publication highlights some of the main findings of Child Adoption: Trends and Policies and provides guidelines on how to improve the collection, compilation and dissemination of information on adoption. This publication contains an introduction based on the Executive Summary of the larger report and a reproduction of its chapter VIII, which contains the guidelines proper.

Health care migration is a large and global business. Recruitment is decentralized, involves both public and private sector entrepreneurs, and is difficult to regulate. The countries of the Western Hemisphere are important players in the global health market. In the major migrant receiving Western Hemisphere countries, the US and Canada, the concern is that domestically educated nurses will not be sufficient to meet growing demands. The recruitment of immigrant professionals in nursing fields helps fill existing gaps. The pages that follow outline a range of issues related to health care workers from the Western Hemisphere, their patterns of movement, their roles in the work force primarily in the US and Canada, and the impacts of health care migration on source and receiving countries. The study tracks the largest segment of migrating health care workers: nurses and long term/direct care providers who perform nursing functions. It covers training, migration requirements.
