The tale of Macbeth centers around a tragedy and is regarded as one of Shakespeare's darkest and most dramatic works. The drama, which is set in Scotland, depicts the harmful physical and psychological ramifications of political ambition on individuals who desire power for its own reason. He succumbs to Lady Macbeth's evil ambitions, stabs King Duncan in his sleep, and seizes the throne, blinded by the desire for power. But Macbeth is quickly tortured with remorse and horror. What will he do to avoid the repercussions of his crime? William Shakespeare's Macbeth discloses how evil can rule over a man's goodness.

The poem opens with a description of a young woman crying at the brink of a river, throwing torn-up letters, jewelry, and other mementos of love into the water. An elderly gentleman approaches the woman and inquires about her sadness. She reacts by telling him about a previous lover who chased her, seduced her, and then abandoned her. She describes in detail how her lover enticed her with a speech. The 154 sonnets, all but two of which are addressed to a beautiful young man, 'Mr W. H., ' or a treacherous 'dark lady, ' contain some of the most exquisite and haunting poetry ever written, and deal with timeless subjects like love and infidelity, memory and mortality, and Time's destructio

A great humorous story about mistaken identities. The play Twelfth Night revolves around Sebastian and his twin sister, Viola, who, after being separated following a shipwreck, each believes the other is dead. The play opens when Viola assumes the identity of Cesario, a page in the Duke of Orsino's household. The Duke is smitten by Countess Olivia, but she rejects him in favor of the freshly arrived young page. The comedic antics of Malvolio, Sir Toby Belch, the maid Maria, and Sir Andrew Aguecheek contribute to the perplexity, which is nicely rectified when Viola and Sebastian reunite. This amusing masterwork, which contains some of the finest comedic situations in the English language, is one of Shakespeare's most popular and performed comedies.
First published in 1990, 'The Tempest' is a play by William Shakespeare, an English playwright, poet, and actor. He is widely considered the most splendid writer in the English language and the world's most remarkable dramatist. It is set on a remote island, where Prospero, the suitable Duke of Milan, plots to restore his daughter Miranda to her proper place using illusion and skillful manipulation. He invokes a storm, the eponymous tempest, to lure his usurping brother Antonio and the complicit King Alonso of Naples to the island. The characters outshine the roles of villains and heroes. Prospero seems heroic, yet he enslaves Caliban and has a hunger for revenge. Caliban seems to be a monster for attacking Miranda but appears heroic in opposing Prospero, prompting the period of colonialism during which the play was written. Miranda's engagement to Ferdinand, the Prince of Naples and a member of the shipwrecked party helps resolve the drama. New versions of Shakespeare’s history plays from director and translator Douglas Langworthy. In his three Henry VI plays, Shakespeare tackles the infamous Wars of the Roses and the fall of the House of Lancaster. In this translation of Henry VI, Part 3, Douglas Langworthy concludes the trilogy, tracking the final downfall of Henry VI and the rise of the House of York. Langworthy’s translation takes a deep dive into the language of Shakespeare. With a fine-tooth comb, he updates passages that are archaic and difficult to the modern ear, and matches them with the syntax and lyricism of the rest of the play, essentially translating archaic Shakespeare to match contemporary Shakespeare. This translation of Henry VI, Part 3 was written as part of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival’s Play On! project, which commissioned new translations of thirty-nine Shakespeare plays. These translations present the work of "The Bard" in language accessible to modern audiences while never losing the beauty of Shakespeare’s verse. Enlisting the talents of a diverse group of contemporary playwrights, screenwriters, and dramaturges from diverse backgrounds, this project reenvisions Shakespeare for the twenty-first century. These volumes make these works available for the first time in print—a new First Folio for a new era.
