Franz Kafka

'You are the knife I turn inside myself'Franz Kafka's letters to his one-time muse, Milena Jesenska - an intimate window into the desires and hopes of the twentieth-century's most prophetic and important writerKafka first made the acquaintance of Milena Jesenska in 1920 when she was translating his early short prose into Czech. Their relationship quickly developed into a deep attachment. Such was his feeling for her that Kafka showed her his diaries and, in doing so, laid bare his heart and his conscience. While at times Milena's 'genius for living' gave Kafka new life, it ultimately exhausted him, and their relationship was to last little over two years. In 1924 Kafka died in a sanatorium near Vienna, and Milena died in 1944 at the hands of the Nazis, leaving these letters as a moving record of their relationship.

"Amerika" - pervyj roman Frantsa Kafki (1883-1924), odnogo iz kljuchevykh pisatelej KHKh veka, okazavshego ogromnoe vlijanie na ves mirovoj literaturnyj protsess. Sam Kafka, opublikovav rasskaz "Kochegar", sobiralsja nachat im roman "Propavshij bez vesti". Nazvanie zhe "Amerika" bylo pridumano dusheprikazchikom pisatelja Maksom Brodom v 1927 godu - kogda posle muchitelnykh kolebanij Maks narushil zaveschanie druga, otkazalsja szhech ego rukopisi i pristupil k ikh publikatsii. No, znaja pechalnye istorii drugikh geroev Frantsa Kafki, my mozhem predpolozhit, chto zhizn Karla prodolzhitsja tak zhe, kak shla do togo: s izrjadnoj dolej absurda, sjurrealisticheskimi povorotami, ekzistentsialnoj trevogoj, kompleksom viny pered vsemi i ni pered kem konkretno. To est vpolne po-kafkianski. Perevod s nemetskogo Mikhaila Rudnitskogo. Soprovoditelnaja statja Alisy Ganievoj Ganieva Alisa Arkadevna - prozaik, esseist, laureat premij "Debjut" i "Triumf", finalist premij imeni Jurija Kazakova za luchshij rasskaz goda (2010), Ivana Petrovicha Belkina za luchshuju povest goda (2010), "Jasnaja Poljana" (2013), "Russkij Buker" (2015). Avtor knig "Salam tebe, Dalgat! " (2010), "Prazdnichnaja gora" (2012), "Zhenikh i nevesta" (2015), "Oskorblennye chuvstva" (2018). Perevodchik: Rudnitskij Mikhail Lvovich

Roman Frantsa Kafki (1883-1924) "Zamok", kak i bolshinstvo proizvedenij velikogo cheshsko-nemetsko-evrejskogo pisatelja (vse tri naroda ravno chtut ego pamjat), pojavilsja na svet vopreki vole avtora - drug i dusheprikazchik pisatelja Maks Brod ne vypolnil uslovija ego zaveschanija i ne szheg khranivshiesja u nego rukopisi. Tak v mirovuju kulturu voshel "kafkianskij absurd", odno iz samykh protivorechivykh, zagadochnykh, no i samykh plodotvornykh literaturnykh napravlenij XX veka. Dazhe popytki pereskazat sjuzhet vygljadjat absurdno: "Kompozitsija romana ne poddaetsja kakomu-libo analizu v silu nezakonchennosti i osobogo sjuzhetnogo razvitija", "mesto dejstvija nelzja vpisat v konkretnye geograficheskie realii, poskolku ono vbiraet v sebja ves mir", "vremja dejstvija ne imeet istoricheskikh tochek opory. O nem izvestno lish to, chto sejchas zima i prodlitsja ona, skoree vsego, tseluju vechnost". No vot svojstvo genija: bessmyslennaja, kazalos by, zhizn neudavshegosja zemlemera gospodina K. vobrala v sebja stolko obschechelovecheskikh smyslov, chto nad nej razmyshljajut, uzhasajutsja, oblivajutsja slezami, primerjajut ee na sebja odno chitatelskoe pokolenie za drugim. Perevod s nemetskogo i soprovoditelnaja statja Mikhaila RudnitskogoMikhail Lvovich Rudnitskij (rod. v 1945) - filolog-germanist, literaturoved i perevodchik, kandidat filologicheskikh nauk, avtor knig i statej po problemam zarubezhnykh literatur. V ego perevodakh opublikovany romany i povesti Frantsa Kafki, Tomasa Manna, Roberta Muzilja, Genrikha Bellja, Gjuntera Grassa, filosofskaja proza Fridrikha Nitsshe, stikhi Genrikha Gejne i Rajnera Marii Rilke, a takzhe mnogie proizvedenija sovremennykh nemetskojazychnykh avtorov. Perevodcheskie raboty M. L. Rudnitskogo neodnokratno udostaivalis literaturnykh premij.

V odnom tome vse romany, rasskazy i novelly, napisannye znamenitym avstrijskim pisatelem Frantsem Kafkoj(1883-1924), ot malykh filosofskikh proizvedenij v postmodernistsko-sjurrealisticheskom dukhe do polnomasshtabnykh gluboko tragicheskikh romanov, prinesshikh emu zasluzhennuju slavu sozdatelja samoj novatorskoj prozy XX stoletija.

A masterful mix of horror and absurdity that tells the story of traveling salesman Samsa, who wakes up one day to find out he has turned into a giant insect. Kafka's novella has beenadapted for film and television a number of times, most recently for radio when BBC's Radio 4 broadcast the story, read by Benedict Cumberbatch, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of its first publication.

Long fascinated with the work of Franz Kafka, Peter Kuper began illustrating his stories in 1988. Initially drawn to the master’s dark humour, Kuper adapted the stories over the years to plumb their deeper truths. Working from new translations of the classic texts, Kuper has reimagined these iconic stories for the twenty-first century, using setting and perspective to comment on contemporary issues. Long-time lovers of Kafka will appreciate Kuper’s innovative interpretations, while Kafka novices will discover a haunting introduction to some of the great writer’s most beguiling stories. Kafkaesque stands somewhere between adaptation and wholly original creation, going beyond a simple illustration of Kafka’s words to become a stunning work of art.
