This book is a result of an effort made by us towards making a contribution to the preservation and repair of original classic literature. In an attempt to preserve, improve and recreate the original content, we have worked towards: 1. Type-setting & Reformatting: The complete work has been re-designed via professional layout, formatting and type-setting tools to re-create the same edition with rich typography, graphics, high quality images, and table elements, giving our readers the feel of holding a 'fresh and newly' reprinted and/or revised edition, as opposed to other scanned & printed (Optical Character Recognition - OCR) reproductions. 2. Mit Hothos Vorlesungsnachschrift aus dem Sommersemester 1823 liegt ein Zeugnis zu Hegels Konzeption der Philosophie der Kunst vor, das für die philosophische Auseinandersetzung um die Bedeutung der Hegelschen Ästhetik noch heute interessant ist. Die Mitschrift gibt Aufschluß über Gegenstand und Entwicklung der Philosophie der Kunst, die Hegel seinen Berliner Studenten vortrug und bis zu seinem Tod ergänzt, erweitert und umstrukturiert hat. Die Studienausgabe zu Hegels Berliner Ästhetikvorlesungen dokumentiert die einzige bekannte Nachschrift der Hegelschen Vorlesung über Ästhetik oder Philosophie der Kunst aus dem Sommersemester 1823. Der Hegelschüler und spätere Herausgeber der Hegelschen Ästhetik hat die Vorlesung knapp und klar mitgeschrieben und nachträglich mit gliedernden Randbemerkungen versehen. Will man sich heute mit Hegels Philosophie der Kunst auseinandersetzen, dann genügt die 1835 bzw. 1842 veröffentlichte Druckfassung der 'Ästhetik' nicht mehr, denn sie gibt kein zuverlässiges Bild der Hegelschen Kunstphilosophie. Daher wird es nötig, sich sowohl für das Studium als auch in der Forschung an den Vorlesungsnachschriften zu orientieren. An diesen Nachschriften wird im Gegensatz zur Druckfassung der Ästhetik die Aktualität der Hegelschen Gedanken erkennbar, die man seiner Philosophie der Kunst auf der Basis der bisher bekannten Textfassung zu Unrecht zuerkannt oder aberkannt hat. Die Nachschrift enthält einen Grundriß der 'Ästhetik' oder Philosophie der Kunst, der die für Hegel charakteristische Bestimmung der Kunst aus ihrer geistes- bzw. kulturgeschichtlichen Funktion erkennen läßt. Die Orientierung der philosophischen Strukturierung an der Realität der Künste und die dadurch gewonnene rational rekonstruierte Verknüpfung der philosophischen mit der historischen Betrachtung der Kunst in einen phänomenologischen Ansatz unterscheidet die Vorlesungen von der späteren, dialektisch durchkonstruierten Druckfassung der Ästhetik. Durch den Vergleich der Ästhetik mit den Vorlesungszeugnissen zu Hegels vier Berliner Vorlesungen über Ästhetik oder Philosophie der Kunst ließ sich in vielen Einzelstudien nachweisen, daß Hegels originäre Konzeption nur in den Vorlesungsnachschriften präsent ist.

Das Vorlesungsmanuskript zur Naturphilosophie und Philosophie des Geistes aus den Jahren 1805/06 stellt den sp testen der drei erhaltenen Systementw rfe aus der Jenaer Zeit Hegels dar. Hinsichtlich der Naturphilosophie zeichnet sich der Text dieser Vorlesung dadurch aus, dass er erstmals ber eine systematische Gliederung verf gt, die der des Teils ber die Philosophie der Natur in der Enzyklop die von 1817 schon sehr nahekommt; hinsichtlich der Philosophie des Geistes dokumentiert der Text von 1805/06 die letzte Stufe der in den Jenaer Jahren vollzogenen Umformulierung der Philosophie der Sittlichkeit zu einer Theorie des Bewusstseins.
