This textbook offers a deep dive into practical kinetics in solution, providing a comprehensive overview of the techniques and methods used to monitor chemical reactions. It addresses fundamental questions about reaction rates, rate laws, and the intricate dynamics of chemical processes. By connecting various experimental aspects required for kinetic and mechanistic research, it guides students on how to obtain, treat, and interpret experimental data to gain realistic mechanistic insights. Divided into nine chapters, the textbook begins with an introduction to the basic concepts of chemical kinetics and an experimental perspective on monitoring chemical reactions. Subsequent chapters cover complex reactions, offering insights into simplifying reaction schemes through steady-state and pre-equilibrium approximations. Special attention is given to reactions in solution, highlighting diffusion-controlled and activation-controlled reactions, as well as the role of catalysis. The authors provide expert analyses of chemical reactivity in multiphasic systems, such as microemulsions and emulsions, offering a detailed understanding of these complex environments. The textbook also focuses on the analysis of kinetic data, including the effects of solution composition. It explores non-linear regression analyses, residuals, dataset size, noise, fitting functions, and the limits of fitting algorithms. Additionally, it presents comparisons between fitting data and experimental data, providing readers with valuable insights. This textbook is an invaluable resource for upper-undergraduate and graduate students conducting research in reaction kinetics. It is also essential for researchers and practitioners in chemistry, particularly those interested in reaction kinetics and chemical reactivity. With contributions from leading experts, this volume is a must-read for anyone looking to advance their understanding of chemical kinetics.

There is a great worldwide desire to launch new technology-based business. In this sense, and increasingly, entrepreneurship courses have arisen in several universities and many of the courses in the management, administration and engineering areas already offer entrepreneurship curricular units. Throughout those programs, the teams develop key integrated competencies in innovation, entrepreneurship and technology that will ultimately enable the students to create and develop new technology-based businesses. The Business Plan Reference Manual for IT Businesses provides a reference manual for undergraduate and graduate students that intend to launch their start-up business in the IT field. It helps them to create and model the business plan of their business. Therefore, this manual is mainly aimed at instructors who want to offer a practical view of the process of modeling, designing and developing an IT start-up. Additionally, it can be individually used by entrepreneurs who wish to launch their start-up businesses in IT field. The structure of the book was defined taking into account different approaches to the construction of the business plan, which basically consider a disaggregation of some of these chapters in others smaller (e.g., marketing plan into products/services and market, financial plan into investment plan and economic-financial projections). We chose to aggregate these dimensions into a single chapter, which in our view facilitates the process of analyzing a business plan. It is also relevant to mention the inclusion of “Chapter V – Prototype description” which is innovative and intends to take into account the application of this business plan template to the information technology sector.

Becoming a global company once meant penetrating markets around the world. But the demands of the knowledge economy are turning this strategy on its head. Today, the challenge is to innovate by learning from the world . This book provides a blueprint for companies ready to embrace this new globalization challenge. In From Global to Metanational, international business and strategy experts Yves Doz, Jose Santos, and Peter Williamson introduce a radically different kind of company--the metanational--defined by three core capabilities: being the first to identify and capture new knowledge emerging all over the world; mobilizing this globally scattered knowledge to out-innovate competitors; and, turning this innovation into value by producing, marketing, and delivering efficiently on a global scale. The authors explain why traditional global strategies are no longer sufficient to differentiate leading competitors, what the knowledge economy means for managers, and why opportunities to leverage globally dispersed knowledge are growing. Most important, they outline exactly how managers can build a metanational advantage for their own organizations by: prospecting for and accessing untapped pockets of technology and emerging consumer trends from around the world; leveraging knowledge imprisoned in a multinational's local subsidiaries; and, mobilizing this fragmented knowledge to generate innovations, profits, and shareholder value. Drawing from the experiences of pioneering metanationals including STMicroelectronics, ARM, Acer, Nokia, Shiseido, and PolyGram, the book shows how today's multinationals can use their existing global networks to gain an important head start in the global game--and how newcomers can leapfrog traditional competitors by rapidly building a new-style metanational corporation. Must-reading for every leader--from the CEO of a new global venture, to the executive of a currently successful multinational, to the founder of an e-business startup getting ready to 'go global'--this pathbreaking book shows how to reshape strategies to compete and win in the global knowledge economy.
