The Meditations contains the day-to-day political thoughts of its author Marcus Aurelius. Considered by many as one of the great books of all times, they are basically the moral tenets. Many consider Meditations as the only document of its kind ever made. An intimate contact with the thoughts pursued by Aurelius during the troubling involvements of his reign can be acquired by reading the Meditations. It is a book of short sayings, varying from a sentence or two, to a long paragraph. It's not organized by theme, but certain ideas keep popping up throughout, indicating that he thought them the most important for him to understand and incorporate into the way we live. The book's teachings were meant to be practiced and used. When the author speaks of the certainty of death and how relatively soon it will come, he is not philosophizing. He is recommending that this fact advises our decision-making. Throughout this book, Aurelius lists the character traits that include many examples worth following.
Marcus Aurelius's Meditations serves as both a compact treatise on living a happier, more virtuous life and an excellent introduction to Stoic philosophy. Marcus Aurelius (121-180 C. E.) The philosophy of the Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius can be found in a collection of personal writings known as the Meditations. These reflect the influence of Stoicism and, in particular, the philosophy of Epictetus, the Stoic. It's one of the best books I have ever read. Meditations might make a point in say book 1 or 2 and then follow up on it in book 6 or whatever. Overall don't worry about how fast you read it and yes it is tough to read I have times where I can read a chapter a day but may not read again for a week or so.

Meditations is a series of personal writings by Marcus Aurelius, Roman Emperor from AD 161 to 180, recording his private notes to himself and ideas on Stoic philosophy. Marcus Aurelius wrote the 12 books of the Meditations in Koine Greek as a source for his own guidance and self-improvement. It is possible that large portions of the work were written at Sirmium, where he spent much time planning military campaigns from 170 to 180. Some of it was written while he was positioned at Aquincum on campaign in Pannonia, because internal notes tell us that the first book was written when he was campaigning against the Quadi on the river Granova (modern-day Hron) and the second book was written at Carnuntum.
Marcus Aurelius, one of the great rulers of the Roman Empire, sets forth a series of self-reflective essays intended as a guide for his own self-improvement. Written during the turning points of his life and divided into twelve books, Meditations ponders life's greatest questions in the author's search for a meaningful existence. Remarkably, they are no different from the questions we ask ourselves today-from finding happiness to understanding our place in the cosmos. Centuries after Aurelius's death, Meditations remains a profound source of inspiration for contemporary times-a collection of deeply held principles that are a wellspring for positive thinking and leading a purpose-driven life.
