The period under the British Rule, has been one of the most poignant one in the history of the country which touched each and every person's life. The people of the country where always faced with the dilemma whether, to see the positive of the Raj or to continue with the obsolete ways of living in the name of keeping up with the tradition. In this lucid story that is parallel to explain the political unrest, lack of direction and unity in the country, is explained with the help of the view point of the people who form the main characters of the story. Nikhil, Bimala and Sandip are all doing what they find the best thing to do from their perspective but it is the lack of clear understanding and discrepancy of beliefs that complicates things.
We all seek nothing but ultimate peace and truth in this journey called life. This the reason that ancient texts and Upanishads held an important place in one's household, especially in that of Rabindranath Tagore. He vividly describes how these holy scriptures used to be worshipped every day in his house and hence he ended up imbibing the profound values they have been the epitome of. This book, Sadhana: the realization of life is a wonderful compilation of essays that Tagore presented before Harvard University. Here is speaks beautifully about the ancient beliefs, values and traditions of the country and how it has the answers for all situations in life.

'Nationalism' is based on the speeches of Tagore delivered during the Swadeshi movement in India and the First World War. While the nations of Europe were doing battle, Tagore urged his audiences in Japan and the United States to eschew political aggressiveness and cultural arrogance. The lectures emphasize Tagore's political and philosophical views on human understanding and its weakness for power and material hoardings. The book depicts the idea of a moral and spiritual growth for human welfare. Tagore's Nationalism holds much relevance in today's environment of violence and intolerance.
