A Colour Atlas of Companion Animal Parasites: Life Cycles and Morphological Identification illustrates how to identify common parasites of dogs, cats and horses using simple morphological features. It presents parasite life cycles in straightforward, accurate terms, and covers: - the general features of major arthropods, helminths and protozoa of dogs, cats and horses; - morphological identification of both adult parasites and their immature stages in tissues, with particular consideration given to differential identification; - major parasites of companion animals which may shift regions because of climate change, animal movement and other anthropogenic factors. Parasite identification is fundamental, not only for planning treatment, prevention and management of parasitic disease, but also for surveillance of invasive exotic parasites and for monitoring the spread of endemic species. With 600 parasite specimens photographed and annotated as a quick reference resource, this book mirrors what a practitioner might view down a microscope, bringing the subject alive. It forms a complete and practical resource for all veterinary students, veterinarians, and anyone interested in parasite control.

Remedicalizing Cannabis

Remedicalizing Cannabis

Suzanne Taylor

When cannabis tincture was withdrawn from the medical establishment in the UK in 1973, cannabis became regulated solely as an illicit drug. Within a decade cannabis-based drugs were back in the clinic. The UK is one of the biggest producers of medicinal cannabis, but few patients have access to these medicines. High-profile cases of parents campaigning for access to cannabis oil for severe and rare forms of epilepsy in their children are the most recent in a long line of controversies over cannabis and cannabis-based medicines. With mounting questions about patient access, the effectiveness of international drug control systems, and the role of expert advice, it is crucial to understand how we have arrived at this situation. While the historical literature has focused on cannabis as an illicit substance, Remedicalizing Cannabis considers the botanical product and its potential to yield medical applications. Investigating the remedicalization of cannabis, Taylor explores the process whereby boundaries shift between illicit drug and licit medicine. Basing her arguments on archival material from expert committees, researchers, and activists and in-depth interviews with key players, Suzanne Taylor traces the issues and interests involved in this process, demonstrating the important roles of changing scientific knowledge, expert advice, industry, clinical trials, and patient activism. Remedicalizing Cannabis investigates the evolving tensions that have brought us to the current situation and demonstrates the role of history in understanding today’s debates about cannabis.

Memoirs of My Life weaves the story of Suzanne Taylor's life-recounting the unusual and unexpected path that God set for her. Against the wise advice of her parents, she chose a lifestyle far from their hopes and dreams for her. The emotions and chaos of finding the right path in life are captured in her very personal poetry that explores the author's life. From "Daddy's Little Girl" to "Money, Money, Money, Money," the emotions contained in Memoirs of My Life paint a picture of a life fully lived. The Dream It's a child's wish come true It may be old or new It belongs to the young and bold It's anyone's desire not told It's a hope that will unfold A dream can be of wealth and fame To live in peace having no one know your name Dreams can be of fairy tales come true Of love and romance born anew A dream is an inner thought of deep emotion It will bring happiness serenity and deep devotion Let me have my dreams of everlasting love and life Like a pure white dove in glorious flight Let me fall into sweet slumber and dream all night
