This report presents the findings, conclusions and recommendations of the evaluation of the third Global Cooperation Framework (also referred to as the GCF to III or the global programme). Covering the period 2005 to 2007, the main purpose of the evaluation was to assess the performance of the GCF to III, to capture lessons learned from this experience and to make concrete recommendations for the future. The evaluation collected evidence from case studies in fourteen programme countries, five regional service centres, two subregional resource facilities, three thematic centres, and through extensive interviews in New York.

In the light of the urgent need for cooperative and collaborative action against trafficking, this publication presents examples of promising practice from around the world relating to trafficking interventions. It is hoped that the guidance offered, the practices showcased and the resources recommended in this Toolkit will inspire and assist policymakers, law enforcers, judges, prosecutors, victim service providers and members of civil society in playing their role in the global effort against trafficking in persons. The present edition is an updated and expanded version of the Toolkit published in 2006.

The report highlights key developments and recent trends in agriculture, rural development, land, desertification and drought, five of the six themes being considered by the Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD) at its 16th and 17th sessions (2008 to 2009). It notes progress in a number of areas while, at the same time, acknowledging that in other areas significant work is still needed to advance implementation of intergovernmentally agreed goals and targets.

It can be used in a variety of contexts, both as a reference document or as a training tool.

The United Nations Convention on the International Sale of Goods (CISG) is an important tool for international trade which provides a standardized framework for contracts of sale of goods between parties from different States. The Digest is aimed to present clear, concise and objective information of the Convention articles, and to reflect the evolution of the case law. It contains chapters corresponding to CISG articles, which present a summary of the related case law, drawing attention to common views and stating different approaches. The Digest makes reference to the full text of the decision whenever it is essential to demonstrate the point.

While indigenous peoples make up around 370 million of the world’s population – some 5 per cent – they constitute around one-third of the world’s 900 million extremely poor rural people. Every day, indigenous communities all over the world face issues of violence and brutality. Indigenous peoples are stewards of some of the most biologically diverse areas of the globe, and their biological and cultural wealth has allowed indigenous peoples to gather a wealth of traditional knowledge which is of immense value to all humankind. The publication discusses many of the issues addressed by the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and is a cooperative effort of independent experts working with the Secretariat of the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues. It covers poverty and well-being, culture, environment, contemporary education, health, human rights, and includes a chapter on emerging issues.

Latin America has extremely high levels of social and economic inequality as well as insufficient social expenditure despite registering the highest growth in per capita GDP since the 70’s. This work provides the latest estimates for the countries of Latin America regarding poverty, residential segregation, impact of social expenditure on people’s well-being and psycho to social divides. It also analyses internal migrations as well as health programmes for indigenous people and women.

This international compendium of national demographic statistics is designed to supply basic statistical data on 230 countries or areas for such users as demographers, economists, public-health workers and sociologists. It contains general tables including a world summary of selected demographic statistics, statistics on the size, distribution and trends in national population, natality, foetal, infant, maternal and general mortality as well as nuptiality and divorce.

The paper presents an overview of definitions and concepts applied by the United Nations and further describes different concepts and methodologies that are available to quantify and measure disability. It presents findings of an empirical four country (Antigua and Barbuda, Saint Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and Trinidad and Tobago) study using recent census data. The study also looks into the accessibility of assistive devices, living arrangements and social activities of those affected by these ailments.

This report summarizes the actions that gave hope to the most disadvantaged countries by overcoming developmental challenges in these countries. It presents best practices from 50 of the least developed countries and concentrates on positive results and solutions. The publication concludes that partnership is a vital key for inspiring development.

The publication presents the conceptual framework and content of the Generations and Gender Survey(GGS) and the Contextual Database of the GGP, and provide guidelines for survey fieldwork and maintaining the panel sample. The aim of this publication is to contribute to the implementation of the Generations and Gender Survey. It is also expected to be of interest to a broader audience interested in population matters and international comparative survey.

In accordance with Article 102 of the Charter and the relevant General Assembly Resolutions, every treaty and international agreement registered or filed and recorded with the Secretariat since 1946 is published in the United Nations Treaty Series. At present, the collection includes about 30,000 treaties reproduced in their authentic languages, together with translations into English and French, as necessary. The Treaty Series, where treaties are published in the chronological order of registration, also provides details about their subsequent history (i.e., participation in a treaty, reservations, amendments, termination, etc.). Comprehensive Indices covering 50 to volume-lots are published separately. A Standing Order service is available for the Series and out to of to print volumes are available on microfiche.
