This guide, prepared by United Nations Environment programme, shows how we can get closer to climate neutrality on the various levels of our society. It is aimed at a broad audience, and it presents solutions for individuals, businesses, cities and countries plus other groups that have similar characteristics such as NGO and intergovernmental organisations. The book is rich in case studies, illustrations, maps and graphics and serves also as reference publication.

Water is a unique and vital source, for which there is no substitute. Sustainable development of this rich resource in the region is complex as the distribution of water to all nations is heterogeneous, which increases the risk of being used or adapted inequitably. In recent years the sustainability discourse has broadened to include human systems. The purpose of this publication on hydropolitical vulnerability and resilience along international is to warrant broader promotion and dissemination of assessed information and data in order to support informed policy to making and provide a model for the regions that face similar water challenges.

The guidelines show how national governments can plan, develop, implement and monitor a national programme on sustainable consumption and production (SCP). This is a flexible approach to SCP programme development which will be adapted to local circumstances. The guidelines are also useful to countries that already have a SCP programme but are keen to improve and sustain the process. They contain nine case studies and several other examples of good practice, which illustrate how governments are implementing SCP programmes all over the world.

The forty-eighth issue of National Accounts Statistics: Main Aggregates and Detailed Tables shows detailed national accounts estimates for most of the world's countries and areas for the reporting years 1995 to 2006. The national data for each country and area are presented in separate chapters using uniform table headings and classifications recommended in the United Nations System of National Accounts (SNA). A summary of the conceptual framework of the SNA and definitions of important terms are also included in this publication. Other statistical information covered includes gross domestic product, national income, savings, private and government consumption, and transactions of institutional sectors.

The publication analyses the main characteristics of Argentine manufacturing industry and the development phases. It concentrates on its structural features during the 1980s and on the changes that have occurred since the convertibility plan was introduced – between 1991 and 2001 – the most recent transformations between 2002 and 2006. The book concludes with analyses of the possibilities of strengthening the development of competitiveness and the ways to industrial development in Argentina.

The report marks almost two decades since the 1990 World Summit for Children set the goal of virtual elimination if iodine deficiency disorders (IDD). It has three main purposes: it reviews the global and national efforts to eliminate IDD during the past two decades, captures the lessons learned and best practices in the elimination of IDD in various countries, and proposes an agenda against IDD as a vital step towards preventing adverse effects on international development and human potential. The publication also provides information about UNICEF’s activity, its current priorities and, to the extent possible, where it is headed.

This publication is a part of an ongoing series highlighting some of the results of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) sub-programme on Economic Cooperation and Integration. It provides an overview of how policymakers in the UNECE Member States seek to support innovation activities and how they try to maximize the benefits of that support for achieving higher economic growth and enhanced competitiveness. This Comparative Review also addresses such issues as the rationale for policy intervention to support intervention, the importance of setting long-term objectives, the role of innovation governance in national innovation systems and some specific aspects of the related policy mix in formulating policies targeting different components of the national innovation capacity.

This publication presents, in the form of analytical tables, a summary of the principal national accounting aggregates based on official detailed national accounts data for more than 200 countries and areas of the world for the years 1970 to 2006. The analysis covers the level of total and per capita gross domestic product, shares of gross domestic product by expenditure and by kind of activity, economic structures, economic development and price development, average growth of gross domestic product and components thereof, and implicit price deflators. The national data for each country and area are presented in separate chapters using uniform table headings and classifications recommended in the United Nations System of National Accounts 1993.

This summary of UNEP's activities in 2007 provides an overview of the organizations contribution to the fight against climate change in a year in which unequivocal evidence established that global warming is the defining challenge of our era. This publication contains two papers that examine emerging issues in the field of business development among the developing Asia-Pacific countries and suggest some possibilities for regional cooperation in Asia and the Pacific. The first paper explores a role for regional (and subregional) cooperation in support of pro-business regulatory reform in Asia and the Pacific, and recommends some specific areas to explore further by the developing countries and donor agencies, where specific technical assistance must be provided to support such reform. The second paper provides an overview of the current trend of increasing South-South foreign direct investment (FDI) flows in Asia, specifically South, East and South-East Asia, as well as current policies and strategies related to inward and outward FDI.

This report highlights key developments and recent trends in Sub-Saharan Africa – the case of Africa being considered by the UN Commission on Sustainable Development at its 16th and 17th sessions in 2008 and 2009. It notes progress in a number of areas while, at the same time, acknowledging that in other areas significant work is till needed to advance implementation of inter to governmentally agreed goals and targets.

The present revised edition of the Rules of Procedure embodies all the amendments adopted by the General Assembly up to and including at its sixtieth session.
