"Esoteric Vegetarianism" is not an ordinary plead in favour of vegetarianism, but a collection of essays by authors ancient and modern on its most philosophical and esoteric aspects. Allow Iamblichus to introduce you to the company of the ancient vegetarian followers of Pythagoras; let yourself become imbued with the dialectical beauty and profound wisdom of Plutarch and Plato; follow Porphyry's extensive mystical disquisitions on the matter; hear the allegedly clairvoyant testimonies by Charles W. Leadbeater and Annie Besant on what the indiscriminate sacrifice of animals for food entails, and become acquainted with the theosophical elucidations of Helena P. Blavatsky on whether animals are endowed with souls. All this benefiting from the insightful annotations of the modern Neo-Platonic philosopher Thomas Taylor and an additional essay, introduction and further annotations by Sonchis Triacorda. The present volume contains: "On the Eating of Flesh I & II" by Plutarch. "Vegetarianism in the Light of Theosophy" by Annie Besant "Vegetarianism and Occultism" by Charles W. Leadbeater "The Influence of Alcohol" by Annie Besant "Have Animals Souls? (I-III)" by Helena P. Blavatsky An excerpt from "The Republic" of Plato Excerpts from "Life of Pythagoras" by Iamblichus "Abstinence from Animal Food (I-IV)" by Porphyry "Eating Meat made us None the Smarter" by Sonchis Triacorda
The present volume is a compilation of essays and lectures on the topic of reincarnation authored by Annie Besant. A socialist and feminist activist during her early youth, in 1889 the life trajectory of Annie Besant (1847-1933) suffered a drastic shift when she was asked to write a professional review of the magnum opus of theosophical teachings entitled "The Secret Doctrine" by Madame Blavatsky. It is said that as Besant turned page after page, it was as if a long lost vision of truth flashed through her mind, thus becoming an eager student of Theosophy for the rest of her life, and even becoming the second international president of the Theosophical Society in 1907. Appreciated by Mahatma Gandhi, who said that "she awakened Indian people from their deep slumber," a few years later Annie Besant became the legal guardian of a young boy called Jiddu Krishnamurti, who would grow to become one of the greatest and most authentic sages of the XX century. The present volume is formed of four essays which, when considered together, offer a comprehensible introduction into the topic of Reincarnation as defended by modern Theosophy and the esoteric teachings of many spiritual traditions. The lectures and essays contained in this volume-which in the present edition benefit from annotations by Sonchis Triacorda-are commonly known as: Proofs of the Existence of the Soul The Seven Principles of Man Reincarnation Man and His Bodies
"The Case for India" is a book written by Annie Besant, an English socialist, theosophist, and women's rights activist. The book is a defense of India's right to self-determination and a call for an end to British colonial rule in the country. Besant argues that India has a rich cultural and intellectual heritage that is being suppressed by British imperialism. She criticizes the British for their policies of economic exploitation, cultural erasure, and political oppression, and calls for India to be given the freedom to govern itself. The book also discusses the importance of Indian religions and spiritual traditions, particularly Hinduism, and argues that they should be respected and preserved. Besant also advocates for women's rights and education in India, arguing that these are essential for the country's development and progress. Hence, "The Case for India" is a passionate defense of Indian culture and an indictment of British colonialism. The book was influential in the Indian independence movement and remains an important work in the history of Indian nationalism.
"The Christian Creed; Or, What It Is Blasphemy to Deny" is a book written by Annie Besant, a prominent British socialist, women's rights activist, and theosophist. The book is a critical examination of the fundamental beliefs of Christianity and presents Besant's perspective on what constitutes blasphemy. In the book, Besant states that Christianity's core tenets, including the existence of God, the divinity of Jesus Christ, the concept of sin, and the resurrection, are essential to the faith and cannot be denied without committing blasphemy. Do you believe in the existence of god? "The Christian Creed; Or, What It Is Blasphemy to Deny" was originally written before 1897 and caused a stir in religious circles. The author's ideas challenged the traditional interpretation of Christianity and were seen by some as an attack on the faith. However, the book also garnered praise for its erudition and intellectual rigor.
"An Introduction to Yoga" is a book written by Annie Besant, a prominent British social reformer, feminist, and spiritual teacher. The book provides a comprehensive guide to the philosophy and practice of yoga, with a focus on the principles of Raja Yoga. The book is divided into several chapters, each exploring different aspects of yoga, including the nature of the mind, the practice of concentration and meditation, the power of thought, and the attainment of spiritual consciousness. Besant provides clear and accessible explanations of these complex concepts, drawing on her own experiences as a practitioner of yoga and her extensive knowledge of Indian philosophy and spirituality. Besant's approach to yoga is grounded in a belief in the unity of all existence and the interconnectedness of all living beings. Moreover, "An Introduction to Yoga" is a valuable resource for anyone interested in learning more about the practice of yoga and its role in promoting physical, mental, and spiritual well-being.
