"Somudranil, I discovered, is of the rare kind who surrenders entirely to the emotional quotient of the material and lets his grasp on the language guide the rhythm of his prose. He is no more the Tagore who writes about his childhood. Instead, he becomes the younger Tagore who lived those young years. That's where Somudranil makes this book his own." - Sarthak Dasgupta (Filmmaker)What if you wake up in the middle of the night and find yourself transported back through time? Where the howling cries of the dacoits fill the air, palanquins swoosh past you, and the sprawling magical world enamors with all its squalor Ever been to the wonderland? If no is your answer, peeking a bit into the 19th-century Calcutta won't hurt much. In this account of My Growing Years, the second memoir by Tagore surfaces a man of rare talent and wisdom-Rabindranath Tagore. But don't you want to know about the wonderland the man was once a part of, which led to his making? The house where he grew up, the stories of people who danced to their heart's content, and the timelessness of the period-all deeply embedded in My Growing Years.

Rabindranath Tagore FRAS (7 May 1861 - 7 August 1941) was a Bengali polymath-poet, writer, playwright, composer, philosopher, social reformer and painter. He reshaped Bengali literature and music as well as Indian art with Contextual Modernism in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Author of the "profoundly sensitive, fresh and beautiful" poetry of Gitanjali, he became in 1913 the first non-European and the first lyricist to win the Nobel Prize in Literature. Tagore's poetic songs were viewed as spiritual and mercurial; however, his "elegant prose and magical poetry" remain largely unknown outside Bengal. He was a fellow of the Royal Asiatic Society. Referred to as "the Bard of Bengal", Tagore was known by sobriquets: Gurudev, Kobiguru, Biswakobi. A Bengali Brahmin from Calcutta with ancestral gentry roots in Burdwan district and Jessore, Tagore wrote poetry as an eight-year-old. At the age of sixteen, he released his first substantial poems under the pseudonym Bhānusiṃha ("Sun Lion"), which were seized upon by literary authorities as long-lost classics. By 1877 he graduated to his first short stories and dramas, published under his real name. As a humanist, universalist, internationalist, and ardent anti-nationalist, he denounced the British Raj and advocated independence from Britain. As an exponent of the Bengal Renaissance, he advanced a vast canon that comprised paintings, sketches and doodles, hundreds of texts, and some two thousand songs; his legacy also endures in his founding of Visva-Bharati University. Tagore modernised Bengali art by spurning rigid classical forms and resisting linguistic strictures. His novels, stories, songs, dance-dramas, and essays spoke to topics political and personal. Gitanjali (Song Offerings), Gora (Fair-Faced) and Ghare-Baire (The Home and the World) are his best-known works, and his verse, short stories, and novels were acclaimed-or panned-for their lyricism, colloquialism, naturalism, and unnatural contemplation. His compositions were chosen by two nations as national anthems: India's "Jana Gana Mana" and Bangladesh's "Amar Shonar Bangla". The Sri Lankan national anthem was inspired by his work. "Tagore's life reminds me to take a step back. The time he allowed himself to learn and dream was a commitment of years and decades."—Rupi KaurRabindranath Tagore (1861-1941) is thought of as the most important poet of modern-day India. This literary giant's writings have inspired millions of readers for generations. The Heart of God is a beautiful collection of 102 poems that explores life's many mysteries, including the joy of love, the beauty of nature, and the inevitability of death. Representing Tagore's "simple prayers of common life," each poem is an eloquent affirmation of the divine in the face of both joy and sorrow. Tagore was born into a wealthy family in the Bengali city of Calcutta during British colonial rule. Immensely talented, he would become a distinguished writer, educator, playwright, composer, social reformer, and philosopher. As a poet, Tagore is a master, having been awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1913—the first non-European to be given this honor. Along with Mahatma Gandhi, Tagore is considered to be the foremost intellectual and spiritual advocate for India's liberation from imperial rule. Originally compiled by Rev. Herbert Vetter, this expanded edition of The Heart of God includes 25 additional poems and a foreword by Tagore scholar Bashabi Fraser, who describes the profound wisdom of Tagore's writings and the lasting importance of this beautiful collection, along with a moving Preface by Nobel Peace Prize recipient Albert Schweitzer. Like the Psalms of David, these simple prayers transcend time and speak directly to the human heart.

The Home and the World is the English translation of Ghare-Baire (1919). The story revolves around the life of three protagonists ─ Nikhilesh, a wealthy and well-educated gentleman, his young wife Bimala, and his fiery friend Sandip, a fearless Swadeshi fighter. Bimala, influenced by Sandip, abandons her customary role as a wife and begins to break free from her confining environment. But her transition comes at a great cost. Written at the time when India was still under the rule of the British Empire, the novel deliberates on the politics of its time. A clash of views for then and future India makes this novel an important read even today.

His prolific literary life has left a legacy of quality novels, essays, poems, and in this volume one of his plays. He earned the distinction of being the first Asian writer to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1913.

Passion and politics intertwine in Char Adhyay (1934), Rabindranath Tagore's last and perhaps most controversial novel, set in the context of the freedom struggle in pre-Independent India. Ela, a young working woman, comes under the spell of Indranath, a charismatic political activist who advocates the path of terror. She joins his band of underground rebels, vowing never to marry, and to devote her life to the nation's cause. But through her relationship with Atindra, a poet and romantic who grows disenchanted after joining the group, Ela realizes the hollowness of Indranath's machinations. The lovers now face a terrible choice. This new translation of Char Adhyay brings Tagore's text to life in contemporary idiom, while evoking the charged atmosphere of the story's historical setting.

Sadhana The Retaliation of Life is India's ancient heritage written by Nobel Prize winner Rabindranath Tagore. It is one of the profound books on spirituality and is highly recommended for spiritual wisdom. The book answers some profound questions like; why God created the world? Why devil exists? Does beauty has a purpose? Etc. He also describes mother nature and says if the earth does not pull us with the exact force we could have not been able to walk on earth. With this decision to understand the complexity of this effort and the effort required to solve the conditions that the world of work shows outside, there is a meditation session every day. This is not "Let me figure it out; Let me take it." Everything you do is running. There is a surge of energy through yourself as if you are being lifted up. You will be like if you raise the ground itself in a spiritual way, and flood it with power that is not on your side or on the side of the world, but in 'the whole part. Tagore gives beautiful answers to these questions with Sanskrit verses from the Upanishad and the teachings of Lord Buddha. It will keep you happy, joyful, and breathless. Sadhana is one of those books which needs to be read slowly because every sentence contains an immense amount of knowledge.

My Reminiscences (1917) is a memoir by Rabindranath Tagore. Published after Tagore received the 1913 Nobel Prize in Literature, My Reminiscences contains personal reflections on the author’s youth, education, and introduction to the art of poetry. Originally published in Bengali, My Reminiscences was written by Tagore in his fiftieth year, as he prepared to embark on a journey around the world. “I know not who paints the pictures on memory's canvas; but whoever he may be, what he is painting are pictures; by which I mean that he is not there with his brush simply to make a faithful copy of all that is happening. He takes in and leaves out according to his taste. […] In short he is painting pictures, and not writing history.” In this collection of memories, Tagore is at his philosophical, poetic best, reflecting earnestly and with ease on matters public and private. Looking back on a life at the center of Indian culture, Tagore moves fluidly and fluently from youth to young adulthood, recalling family, friends, servants, and strangers with clarity and curiosity. Afloat in his houseboat, lying on a rooftop at night, or exploring the outer limits of his mind, Tagore shares his insight with us all. With a beautifully designed cover and professionally typeset manuscript, this edition of Rabindranath Tagore’s My Reminiscences is a classic of Indian literature reimagined for modern readers.
