Rudolf Joseph Lorenz Steiner (1861-1925) war ein sterreichischer Esoteriker und Philosoph. Lo studioso delle verit^ superiori non deve dirigere le sue parole soltanto agli investigatori del mondo spirituale; egli deve parlare a tutti gli uomini, perch le cose da lui riferite riguardano tutta l umanit^; ed egli sa anzi, che senza una tale conoscenza nessuno pu~ essere uomo . Egli rivolge la sua parola a tutti gli uomini, perch sa che vi sono differenti gradi di comprensione per ci~ che egli ha da dire, e che un certo grado di comprensione lo hanno anche coloro che si trovano ancora molto lontani dal momento in cui si dischiuder^ loro il mondo spirituale. Perch il senso e la comprensione della verit^ risiedono in ogni uomo. Egli sa pure, che questa comprensione contiene una forza che poco alla volta deve condurre ai gradi pi elevati della conoscenza. Questo senso precisamente il mago, che fa aprire l occhio dello spirito . Gi^ nell oscurit^ quel sentimento si agita; mentre l anima ancora non vede, per mezzo di esso si sente presa dalla potenza della verit^.

Chi si limita alla conoscenza del mondo sensibile non pu~ immaginarsi quanto differissero da noi i nostri progenitori dell'Atlantide; e non soltanto nell'aspetto esteriore, ma anche nelle qualit^ dello spirito. Le loro cognizioni, le arti tecniche, tutta la loro cultura era ben diversa da quella dei nostri giorni. Osservando l'umanit^ atlantica dei primi tempi, vi troviamo facolt^ spirituali diverse in tutto dalle nostre. L'intelletto razionale, la facolt^ di combinare e di calcolare sulla quale oggi basato tutto ci~ che si produce, mancavano interamente ai primi Atlanti. Dobbiamo chiarirci che, ogni qualvolta in un essere si sviluppa una nuova facolt^, un'altra perde di forza e d'acutezza. L'uomo odierno possiede, di fronte a quello dell'Atlantide, l'intelletto razionale e la facolt^ combinativa; la memoria invece venuta meno.

Cos" l introduzione del Vangelo di Giovanni diventata qualcosa di molto difficile per i teologi, tinti di materialismo. La dottrina del Logos o del Verbo ha recato grandi difficolt^ alla gente. Essi dicono: Ci piacerebbe che tutto fosse semplice e ingenuo. Ed ecco questo Vangelo di Giovanni che viene a parlarci di cose filosofiche cos" alte, del Logos, della Vita, della Luce! Le prime parole del Vangelo di Giovanni penetrano veramente subito nei pi profondi misteri del mondo. Queste si vede, se lasciamo che le verit^ della scienza dello Spirito, che di esse costituiscono la base, si affaccino all anima nostra; e dovremo attingere profondamente alla conoscenza spirituale, se vogliamo che queste prime parole del Vangelo si rivelino a noi nella loro giusta luce.

Written in 1883 (CW 1) Goethean Science features Rudolf Steiner's introductions to Goethe's works, re-visioning the meaning of knowledge and how we attain it. Goethe had discovered how thinking could be applied to organic nature and that this experience requires not just rational concepts but a whole new way of perceiving. At the youthful age of twenty-one, Steiner was chosen to edit Goethe's scientific writings for the principle Goethe edition of his time. Goethe's literary genius was universally acknowledged; it was Steiner's task to understand and comment on Goethe's scientific achievements. Steiner recognized the significance of Goethe's work with nature and his epistemology, and here began Steiner's own training in epistemology and spiritual science. In an age when science and technology have been linked to great catastrophes, many are looking for new ways to interact with nature. With a fundamental declaration of the interpenetration of our consciousness and the world around us, Steiner shows how Goethe's approach points the way to a more compassionate and intimate involvement with nature. The Chadwick Library Edition is an endeavor to republish--mostly in new or thoroughly revised English translations--several written works of Rudolf Steiner. The edition is named for the late horticulturist Alan Chadwick, whose life and work has served as inspiration to the small group from which the idea originated. Our extensive experience with special bindings led to the selection--for this "trade edition" of 750 books--of a leather spine binding, cloth sides, and a light slipcase. For the hand-numbered edition (100 books), the binding is full leather with a hand-gilt top of the pages in a fine, stiff, cloth-covered slipcase. The leather is blue calfskin, and the title stamping on the spines is in genuine gold leaf. All of this will be carried out by hand at one of the finest binders, Ruggero Rigoldi. This is the second of three seminars given by Rudolf Steiner to the founding teachers of the Stuttgart Waldorf School in 1919, which makes it one of the most fundamental cycles on Waldorf Education. It contains a feast of methodological advice, everything from a remarkably innovative way of teaching reading to history, geography, and mathematics. Above all, wonder is to suffuse the entire curriculum, and everything human is to be viewed holistically. Steiner ends on a resounding chord, sounding four shining principles that are to guide teachers at all times.

This is the last of the 82-lecture in the cycle Karmic Relationships, and also Rudolf Steiner's final address. (He continued to write from his deathbed). Indeed, it is incomplete, and was never finished. The lecture, which is intensely poetic, contains surprising revelations about the karmic identities of Elijah, Lazarus-John, John the Baptist, Raphael, and Novalis. This 2nd edition is revised and greatly expanded.

La facolta conoscitiva dell'uomo puo essere rinforzata, rinvigorita, cosi come puo essere rinforzata la capacita visiva degli occhi. I mezzi pero che servono a rinvigorire la conoscenza sono di natura spirituale; sono processi interiori, puramente animici, costituiti da cio che vien descritto in questo libro come meditazione, concentrazione (contemplazione). La vita animica normale e vincolata agli strumenti del corpo; la vita animica rafforzata se ne rende libera. Vi sono delle correnti di pensiero all'epoca attuale a cui una tale affermazione dovra sembrare assurda, alle quali essa pare poggiata sull'illusione. Ad esse riuscira facile, dal loro punto di vista, dimostrare, come ogni vita animica sia legala al sistema nervoso. Ma chi sa apprezzare il punto di vista dal quale questo libro e stato scritto comprende completamente queste dimostrazioni; comprende coloro i quali giudicano superficiale l'opinione, che vi possa essere una vita mimica indipendente dal corpo.
