Så lyder budskapet i den här vänboken till Malin Åkerström, professor emerita vid Lunds universitet. Med nedslag i vitt skilda fält och projekt vill författarna exemplifiera och analysera det speciella samspel som äger rum mellan empiri och forskare i olika samhällsvetenskapliga ämnen. Malin Åkerström har under flera decennier bedrivit forskning i den här andan och publicerat en rad färgstarka och stilbildande böcker och artiklar. Den empiriska glädjen är en antologi uppdelad i fyra delar: brott och straff, kultur och kontroll, interaktioner och ritualer samt forskare och fält. Boken innehåller bidrag från 30 författare vid olika lärosäten och riktar sig till forskare och studenter i sociologi, kriminologi, socialt arbete och socialantropologi samt angränsande ämnen.

Metodboken kompromissar inte med det samhällsvetenskapliga projektets komplexitet.

”Och så måste du ha ett avsnitt om etik också …” Forskningsetiken blir alltför ofta en pliktskyldig och standardiserad deklaration om att man följer regler. Studenten som skriver uppsats intygar om sin moraliska förträfflighet, och forskaren som söker anslag eller prövar sin forskning i en etisk nämnd gör likadant. Etiken i forskningspraktiken, det vill säga alla de etiska dilemman som uppkommer när man genomför en studie, hamnar lätt i skymundan. Den här boken framhåller vikten av reflektion och diskussion om etik genom hela forskningsprocessen: från idé och problemformulering, till planering av forskningsprojektet, i fältarbetet, och vidare in i forskningsprojektets slutrapportering. This book combines theories of family practices, care and childhood studies with the personal perspectives of nannies, au pairs, parents and children to provide new understandings of what constitutes care in nanny families. The authors investigate the ways in which all the participants experience the caring situation, and expose the possibilities and problems of nanny and au pair care. Their study illuminates the ways in which paid domestic care workers 'do' family and care; in doing so, it contributes to wider political and scientific discussions of inequalities at the global and local level, reproduced in and between families, in the context of rapidly changing welfare states.

Parrelationer är inget att ta lätt på. I alla fall inte om vi får tro den framväxande expertkulturen om paret. I självhjälpsböcker, tv-program, tidningar och andra fora möts vi av terapeuter, coacher och experter som delar med sig av problemanalyser, verktyg och metoder för hur vi ska kunna uppnå en god parrelation och därmed bli lyckliga. Parförhållanden är något man jobbar med och ramarna för detta pararbete ges av experterna. I Konsten att lyckas som par, som är Sara Eldéns avhandling, analyseras konstruktionen av det heterosexuella paret i populärterapeutiska berättelser. Vilka antaganden om paret, individen, experten och inte minst om kön görs i självhjälpsböcker, tv-program och webbforum med relationstema? Vad händer när det som tidigare setts som det mest privata det som antas äga rum mellan mannen och kvinnan bakom hemmets stängda dörrar allt oftare visas upp och diskuteras i det offentliga? Genom att sammanföra en kritisk diskussion av parrelationens individualisering med teorier om samhällets psykologisering visar avhandlingen hur individualiserande antaganden och könsneutrala tal om parrelationer i sig reproducerar stereotypa föreställningar om kön och könsojämlikhet. Samtidigt pekar människors kreativa läsning av populärterapin på vägar bort från det könskonservativa. Avhandlingen bidrar därmed till den feministiska och sociologiska forskningen liksom den samhälleliga debatten om parrelationer, makt och jämställdhet.
